High server resources when logged in to WP, many tabs open

Hi, when I’m logged into WordPress and have 5-10 or more wordpress pages open (misc. collection of dashboard, plugins page, open pages for editing, etc., our server cpu and memory resources then increase and lead to a sharp spike, often maxing out the cpu, even when simply flipping between open tabs. I tested this on my local server using wamp and experienced the same thing, even with plugins disabled.

Do others experience this and is there a known explanation for it?
