• Hi there,

We use your plugin version 3.8.1. We run into repeat occasions when the plugin pages disappear from the site. Again today after a WordPress upgrade to 4.8.3.

Once logged in we see “Manual Upgrade Required” prompts, when we try to access the settings page it throws the error: Sorry you are not allowed to access the page”

So, all we can do is go through this process and click on Upgrade:

We did this last on October 16, I don’t’ think there was an update for the Classifieds plugin in between, yet it requires us to do a “Manual Upgrade”

Once we are through with the Upgrade, we get the prompt: “It appears you have a potential problem… ” prompt with the button: “Restore the Classifieds pages to fix the conflict”
After we click “Restore the Classifieds..” button, the Settings page is empty and we have to re-enter our pages.

My question for today is: Is there a way (documentation/instructions) to persist the changes and avoid these steps at the next WordPress update

    • WordPress updates
    • pages disappear
    • Manual Upgrade is required
    • Conflict of duplicate pages
    • Restore page
    • Manuel entering the pages again

Please let me know what other information you would need.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Birgit

  • Hi Birgit,

Sorry that you ran into issues with this!

What you describe doesn’t sound quite right in terms of what should happen. After any “restore” operation, the new pages are saved in the DB and unless something is restoring the OLD pages for some reason, it shouldn’t require any manual upgrade each time.

Do you know what your web host is doing for the updates of WordPress? Are they doing any backups/restores of any kind? That definitely seems odd to me to see that behavior.

    Thanks for your fast answer!
I don’t know about the hosting company, but if it were doing restores to the database we would also lose post and other information, which doesn’t seem to happen.

    Hi Birgit,

Well, off hand we’re not hearing others reporting this so it could very well be something environmental.

Next time you see this–can you please let us take a look when it happens?

Contact us here: https://awpcp.com/contact/ when you see it next with a link to this thread. I think that’s the only way to really get to the bottom of it.

We are seeing it again. I left a message at the contact link. I also have temporary username/pw access credentials to share. What would be the best way?

    Hi Birgit,

Looks like Bobbie has got you on the email side of things. We’ll keep the conversation there to avoid confusion. ??
