• Using IIS on my own web server.
When I’m installing WP in “The designed directory” it works fine, but when I’m trying to use “A directory located on this computer” I got this 404 error. If a make a index.html file in that directory it works fine.

  • That sounds like you need to designate index.php as a default document to IIS.

I have just posted because I cannot complete installation, reading your message part of the message I get says the same… http404not found??
If you get that resolved maybe I can get some insite into my problem.
    good luck

unless you know you are on a windows server, you should start another thread with a lot more details.

It is my own Windows 2003 Webserver. The virtuel directory is a directory under the “FTP sites”. If a put the blog under “Web sites” it works fine, but when I’m trying to put the blog elsewhere on my computer I get the 404 error. I guess that IE don’t understand how to run a .php side on a side that is not placed under “Web sites”.

    I found out: Put a ; before doc_root =
    ;doc_root = e:\gulden.org\wwwroot
