• Hi there,

I recently activated a plugin and suddenly my website disappeared! And everytime I try to access it I get this error message:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at [email protected] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Does anyone know what is causing this? And is there an easy fix? I believe it was definitely an incompatible plugin that caused this.

I tried renaming the .htaccess file after following an online tutorial but it did not help. I also tried deactivating all the plugins via the File Manager of my hosting account. I cannot access my admin panel anymore and if I could I believe this would help.

Any suggestion of how I can fix this would be great.

    Many thanks.

  • Rename the plugin directory to disable all plugins.

    Hi Soumanta,

I tried that but for some reason its not working.

Have you got any other suggestions?

Is there anyway I can upload a new clean copy of wordpress to the same host. Would this fix the problem? And how easy is this to do?

    Many thanks.

I used the method where you change the name of the Plugins folder to deactivate the plugins and this did not work. I have not tried the PHP method.

But I know it was a plugin that caused this error and I even know which plugin if this information helps.

If I tried deleting the plugin directly from the file manager would this fix the problem?

Deleting isn’t likely to do more than renaming. But it couldn’t hurt if you know the plugin is the issue.

    Hi Jacob,

I think you are right. I tried disabling the whole plugin folder via the File Manager but it did not solve the problem. I also disabled each plugin by renaming them but again it did not solve the problem.

But I know it was a plugin that caused the problem but I suppose it might have affected other areas of the wordpress website.

Is there a way of just replacing the wordpress software on an existing site from the File Manager? As I do not have access to the admin panel because of the 500 Internal server errors.
