• At the moment, only the homepage of my blog is indexed by Google. How can I make Google follow the links on my homepage?

OK, that’s worth a try!

I might have to wait a little but longer but at the moment, Google still shows only the homepage of my blog and has not indexed any further pages so that Google would offer “more results from…” In addition, I have discovered that most blogs suffer from this problem. Is is even solvable?

I believe Google does not follow links that contains a question mark. So make sure your Uri are rewrited by your .htaccess file accordingly.

Just out of curiosity, has the “post-slug” or “re-write” method been proven to work with regards to Google indexing and or cacheing pages?

@chiensavant: Does a question mark in the URI matter? I’m the author of https://www.southernapproach.ch and up to now, only the front page of my blog is recognised by Google. Other URIs are scanned according to the log file, but they are not included in the index of Google.
Does Google ignore WordPress URIs? My blog is not the only one that is ignored by Google…

southernapproach — isn’t that what he said? If the links contain ? in it, it won’t follow it. That’s why many people have opted for the permalink options allowed by WP and .htaccess.
I’ve got mine setup to use the SEF (Search Engine Friendly) permalinks and Google has never had a problem indexing my site. It works almost too well as I used to get hit with spam on a lot of my older posts.

OK. How have I to change my .htaccess configuration – the current .htaccess file was created by WP 1.3 under development – to make my URIs SEF?

1.3 or 1.2?
in 1.2 goto the admin area, click “Options” then “Permalinks”
Read through the options there, and set your permalink structure the way you want it.
When done, click the “Update Permalink Structure” button. The text box should populate with the necessary rules you need. Copy that and stuff it into your .htaccess file (which you should be able to get to from the “Templates” menu option.

I’m already using permalinks, TechGnome (sorry for not logging in with my username, I’m not at home right now), so I might simply have to wait a few more days or weeks to get indexed by Google.
Thank you for your patient advice! ??

Hi folks,
I guess poeple are still guessing as to whether or not Google indexes and caches pages with or without the “?” questionmark?
I beleive that Google will cache your pages with or without. Try searching Google for the terms “wap Gmail” and tell me if the third link down is titled “skebrown >> Gmail on wap”? And then tell me if the link that you are taken to is in fact “https://skebrown.com/index.php?p=315”.
To me it’s obvious that Google DOES index more than just the monthly archive and index pages of one’s website.
Do you agree? Disagree? Is this a good example and does it help?

When you say Google is not indexing anything other than index what is the search that you are carrying out ?

I’m very sorry, chiensavant, I don’t know all my about 500 passwords off by heart…

Google loves the permanent links created by WordPress! My blog is scanned a few times ago and new entries usually appear just a few hours after publication in the blog… great! ??

google has no problems with dynamic urls. though urls with more than 2-3 levels of values might cause problems.
