I just updated to the latest evolve theme, and now the home pages of the sites that use it are full of evolve ads and are missing the images in the header. Huge mess! Does every user really have to go in and recustomize their site to get rid of the evolve advertisements?? Is there a quick way to get rid of these ads?

    Thanks.

Joyce, yours looks just like mine…and they seem to have changed the entire cusomizer…NOT for the better I might add! How is blog crap on my home page, as that is not my blog…so I don’t get it.

When people want to add new features, they need to build a new theme, not fuck up the working one…security updates, fine…leave the rest alone! that’s my opinion…

I just restored to the previous version of evolve for my sites, so people will no longer see the advertising when you go to bnhm.berkeley.edu. We are most likely going to switch to a different theme for the sites currently using evolve. It’s really not ok to release updates that insert tons of advertising and other unwanted content into people’s home pages!!

Also as I mentioned the header images had disappeared. This is the second time that has happened, plus some other problems, during evolve updates.

one of the guys on the facebook page showed me how to remove the demo content…I got my site back, if you are interested I could help you. They basically added some demo content, and had it enabled by default, but the fix took less than 5 mins…but I’m pissed off that Romik is not monitoring his support threads after releasing a crappy update like that!

    donnaWPadmin

    (@donnawpadmin)

To remove the added demo content, go to appearance, then theme options, then go Custom Home/Front Page builder, general layout, and go all the way to the bottom…to HOME/FRONT PAGE ELEMENTS DISPLAY AND ORDER and there are 2 areas, header, and content area…

Just drag the elements from the enabled side, over to the disabled side…and in my case, I had to go to the header section, and drag my slider back over to the enabled area.

Save, and you’re done. But I sure would not have found it apart from someone showing me, so ROMIK, YOU ARE CRAP TODAY!!!

Thanks for posting this Donna. Very helpful! Not sure yet if we’ll do the upgrade vs switch to another theme. I’m running a multisite WP. If we do the upgrade I’ll have to figure out which sites are using evolve and then customize each one of them. Not ideal. I wish at the very least we had been warned that home pages would change.

Thanks for the heads up, guys — I’ll hold off on any upgrades until @romik84 pushes out a fix.

I notice that two versions were pushed out today, 3.8.0 and 3.8.1 — if you guys upgrade to 3.8.0, then it’s possible that 3.8.1 has the fix — but I can’t tell because the changelog in subversion for 3.8.1 is not updated:

    https://themes.svn.www.ads-software.com/evolve/3.8.1/changelog.TXT

So honestly I don’t know if 3.8.1 is a fix or a rollback.
(Edited to Add: from a quick scan of included files and a comparison of the functions.php file, I’m now pretty sure that 3.8.1 is a rollback to 3.7.6 …. so I am going to just do an easy hack and change the version on my existing 3.7.6 style.css to eliminate the nag for updates.)

Here is the 3.8.0 changelog if anyone is interested:
    https://themes.svn.www.ads-software.com/evolve/3.8.0/changelog.TXT

(Pro tip for Evolve users: Always, always, always read the changelog before updating. It won’t tell you how to fix stuff, but it will at least clue you in on what to expect)

@ljoyceg — I completely understand your frustration – but changing themes can be a lot of work, especially on an already-developed site when you’ve already done a lot of customizations.

I’m only using Evolve on one site and unfortunately have learned from experience to delay upgrades for a few days and monitor these forums first.

Romik has a history of being responsive to support requests and complaints, but isn’t available 24/7 but it’s clear to me now that he is alert to this issue as he seems to have opted to roll back entirely to 3.7.6 with his 3.8.1 upload to subversion — and that was done only 3 hours after the rollout of 3.8.0 — see https://themes.trac.www.ads-software.com/log/evolve/

It would have been nice if he had posted a notice here and commented the changelog in 3.8.1 to make it clear that it was a rollback … but I’d say that for any complex theme it’s a good idea to read changelogs before upgrading, and unless something is noted as a security patch or a compatibility patch with a newer version of WordPress… give it a few days.

Thank you again for posting. I don’t know if its any consolation, but your post probably saved others from a lot of grief. At least those of us who have figured out to check the support threads before upgrading. ??

@abigailm Thanks for all the additional information. Yes, it was 3.8.0 that I upgraded to that caused the problems. I must have done it almost immediately after it was released!

It’s definitely time consuming to switch themes too. We aren’t sure yet what we’ll do. I’m not sure how many people on the multisite are using evolve but at least 3 are who have put a lot of time into customizing it (2 of those especially).

    Hello

    Sorry for our last update.
We are sorry and working on it which customer get issues after theme update.
In short time we solve this issue update back.

    Thank you

    donnaWPadmin

    (@donnawpadmin)

so does 3.8.1 fix 3.8, or is it a rollback? I don’t see where it says…

    Romik84

    (@romik84)

    Hi,

Currently, we have removed content that caused the problems and create a new update version 3.8.1.

Evolve version 3.8.1 is partially rollback and rollback your homepage if it’s mess after the update.

    Thank for your passion

    (@donnawpadmin)

Next time Romik, if you are “working” on a fix, please come and tell us, so we can just patiently wait for it instead of worrying how we are going to fix our sites. Or post on Facebook, or say something somewhere.

is it “safe” to upgrade to 3.8.1. from 3.7.6. without problem?
