Theme php editor not saving changes

When editing one my the theme php files, i make the changes, press “update” and then i checked the webpage and the changes were applied correctly. BUT after about 1-2 min the circle next to the update is still spinning and then the page reverts back to what it was before i made the change. and i get the error message:
"Something went wrong. Your change may not have been saved. Please try again. There is also a chance that you may need to manually fix and upload the file over FTP."below the theme code box.
any help appricated

Please don’t post in the Alpha/Beta forum unless you’re actually testing the alpha/beta version of WordPress (not a plugin or a theme). Also, once WordPress has released a version, it’s not appropriate to post in alpha/beta and you should post in the Fixing WordPress forum:
