Can anyone point me to an explanation about how WordPress decides to flag comments Pending, and if it learns to recognize approved commenters, etc. I’ve looked but can’t find anything but descriptions of how to configure Settings >> Discussion.

    Thanks.

It’s up to the spam plugin you use, like Akismet or AntiSpam Bee or any of the others.

I’m talking about the built in functionality of WP. It will flag comments as spam and pending without a plugin installed.

There’s a brief hint at this here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Comment_Moderation

“WordPress runs a number of tests on each new comment before posting it to your blog. If a comment fails one of these tests, it is not displayed immediately on the site but is placed in a queue for moderation, the process of manual approval or deletion by the blog’s administrator.”

I’m curious about the details of this, and if it learns to recognize approved commenters and not moderate their comments in the future. I’m assuming it does, but I can’t find any details.
