New Meta Description Character Limit

  • When will SEO by Yoast change their meta description character limits? According to Google, meta descriptions can contain up to 320 characters now.

  • Yes, i see that today, hope they’ll make change quickly.

    It’s a big change for big website, lot of job to do for this news rules, i think perhap’s the best thing to do it’s stop to use meta description, let’s google take what he want on page.
    But not sure…

    Just in case anyone’s unsure: there’s nothing to stop the creation of longer meta description tags right now. You’ll get the warning and the red text appear in the Yoast UI, but the tag content will appear as written in the page’s HTML output.

    I have also noticed Google displaying longer descriptions, is this a short term test or has they officially announced that they are allowing longer meta descriptions?
