Overall, I don’t recommend putting a second WordPress installation in a sub-directory of another WordPress installation like example.com/new-site/ (where example.com is the first WordPress installation)

Depending on the server configuration, you could run into a multitude of problems.

    Instead, use a sub-domain, like new-site.example.com

Why would you want to do that? What do you want to accomplish?

@macmanx : Thank you for the info!

@jaycbrf : Hello, i started a travel website since 2-3 months ago. My main site published the articles about tourism objects. Now I want to create the second wordpress for events information, separated.. specific for events.

What is the best scenario? subdomain vs subfolder? Thank you

If you wanted it to be a fully separate site, I’d do events.example.com

Personally though, I’d just keep everyone under the same site and use https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/the-events-calendar/

I do not understand why you want a subdomain or another website? Subdomain/subfolder… Both the same thing. A subdomain points to another folder in your hosting.

What you are trying to do can be accomplished with custom page templates and custom post types.

I Strongly suggest you speak to a web developer before jumping into an ocean if you can only swim a little bit.

Just because the categories are “separated” that does not mean add another website.

If you have an office for the first business are you going to rent another building with a different business name? Or just set up another desk in your current office?

Now I want to create the second wordpress for events information, separated.. specific for events.

You talk about WordPress as if it is a company… Are you starting another company altogether? Or just another employee in the same company that does different tasks related to the same parent company?

No you can not use the same SEO plugin on another site you would have to install that plugin on the new site as well as the two sites would be completely unrelated.

@macmanx and @jaycbrf, i got the point now, thank you for the support.

James Huff, surely that is incorrect advice that you have given? A sub folder would be best for the OP. A new domain is ideal, however, it might not be possible as the second site is indeed connected to the first.

It makes sense to use a subdomain if you are:

    Language Barrier

Setting up a site that caters to different languages. Diffrent versions of your site that cater to different countries can be put in subdomains such as: jp.example.com, in.example.com, ph.example.com. Putting these in a subfolder would make your site seem huge but have the same content – just in different languages.

    Franchises

Sometimes you have people who bought a franchise from you and you want to keep them (or they want to stay) on the same SLD. In this case, you may not have complete control on whatever they are going to do with their site so you’re better off giving them their own subdomain rather than putting them in a subfolder and risking your entire site when they do something stupid with their SEO.

    Conflicting URLs

There will be times when your SLD site is so big and you find yourself in danger of overlapping the URLs. If that’s the case, use a subdomain. That way your URLs will never conflict with any of your SLD’s URLs.

Tips for Keeps: The unbeatable advantage of having your subsite as a subfolder is that it gets all the link equity and other SEO factors that your SLD receives.
