On a desktop when I mouse over my main menu item that has sub-menu items the sub-menu ‘floats’ into view, rather than click-to-open, or dropdown. On an iPad when I touch to open the menu item to display the sub-menu nothing happens unless I long-press the item (discovered by trial and error). Unless the user knows to long-press the menu item, then it appears that the menu does not work (tap and nothing happens). I would rather have a click to drop-down than the mouse-over float method, for lack of a better description, to bypass this anomaly. I’m using a child theme and my skills are limited when it comes to coding, but can manage if given clear and concise instruction. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

@waynebutt, have you done any modifications to your site’s php files, or added any custom CSS in relation to the menu? When I go to https://canapedemo.wordpress.com/ the menu works fine on my iPad, but not on your site.

Also, just to rule out a plugin conflict, disable all plugins and then visit your site on your iPad and see if it works with just a tap on the item with the submenu. If it does, re-enable your plugins one at a time and see which is causing the conflict.

@sacredpath Thanks very much for your help! After trying everything – even changing out the child theme with the parent theme, and then more themes – the problem persisted. And with every plugin disabled.

Today, I decided to re-visit my menu and – lo and behold – I discovered that the parent menu item ‘Menus’ for the drop-down sub-list of restaurant menus required the hash symbol # in the url field for it to work on an iPad. I don’t know if I had forgotten or just never knew. What I did learn is it pays to test a website on as many devices as one can find…

Thanks again for your assistance ?? and A Happy New Year to you and yours!

You are welcome, and glad you got that figured out. I’ll file that away in my crowded brain for future reference. Thanks for posting the solution.
