I just need a couple of recommendations to get me started in the right direction. After spending a few days laboriously typing in each and every piece of information about products (sku, price, title, description…), I realized there must be a faster way of doing it.

After searching, I made the discovery that CSV files, using Excel spreadsheets are the answer.

    So, I have two questions:
    1. Can someone recommend the best plugin for accomplishing this task of importing product data? I need to import images, so that is a consideration, when choosing the right plugin.
    2. I also need a recommendation about the best tutorial–either video or perhaps a book/article/webpage/whatever–for learning this whole phase of setting up my business.

    Thank you for your support.

  • Hi,

    2. I also need a recommendation about the best tutorial–either video or perhaps a book/article/webpage/whatever–for learning this whole phase of setting up my business.

Do take a look at this page: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-guided-tour-videos/?_ga=2.149527861.241917848.1513316401-1807709992.1510890609

    It has guided tour videos.

Hi Yogesh. Thank you very much for that link; it looks like a virtual gold mine for someone like myself, who is just learning WooCommerce. I will definitely look at all of those video tutorials.

However, I didn’t see any video that relates to the task of importing products via a CSV file and a spreadsheet, such as Excel. If it’s there and I’m just not seeing it, could you please point me to it?

Thank you again for your help.

Never mine, I just found a link to it, here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/product-csv-import-suite-importing-products/

Hopefully, that will do the trick.

    Thanks again for your support!

The csv importer supplied with woocommerce does a pretty good job on simple products but is flat broken on variable products. Following the dummy data csv supplied from woocommerce will import the dummy data ok. But will put any other variable product into a simple product with the out of stock flag set. Confirmed by multiple tests with my data and by modifying the dummy data variations name and variable name. Same old simple product accepted with out of stock which leaves the user to input all that data manually.

Setting up the attributes in the global table before using them and making them SELECT will make the manual variable product input easier.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, please start a new thread.

    Thanks!
