After installing this plugin clicking on Appearance/Widget menu makes my whole developer computer extremely slow. The CPU usage goes up like anything and I have to stop the request and kill apache service.

When the plugin is inactive I have no problems. Today I tested a lot of times and I was able to reproduce the error any time I wanted.

However I have installed this plugin to the same computer to a very similar wordpress install and I can not reproduce the error there.

The main difference between the 2 wp installs is the size – where the error occurs is a bigger database (84MB)

I am thinking the reason is in the WP installation. I can not reproduce your issue. The plugin does not request a huge load of data from the db, just the number of posts your set.

    Merry Christmas.

Are there any new insights? If not I will mark that as resolved.

I found what was the problem in my case. I had a category what was deleted from the database (I think manually) but its descendant categories were remain in the database.
So when the plugin tried to build up the category tree it went into an andless loop.
