extended profile for buddy press subscribers

HI,
Although I have extended profiles on, I do not get drop down menu nor Avatar on top right corner for forum users registered as ‘subscribers/participants’. I am the admisnistrator so I see my avatar/extended profile! The only way user get any data i.e notifications, friend request is if they use ‘My Account’ page created with buddy press installation.

Do I have to set new users as ‘contributors/moderators’ for them to see their extended profiles?
