Incredible plugin – I’m loving how versatile it is. Thank you for your hard work!

My goal is to search records based on first name, last name, or county and then filter the results to display a list of only the records I have approved. I’ve found documentation on filtering the initial view of a list, but then the filter goes away when I attempt to search for a first name with the letter M. Mark Driscoll and Elizabeth Driscoll are the only two approved records in the database, but 6 unapproved entries are also displayed.

I’m offering certified training to my customers and I want to use this plugin to allow employers to search for verification of training. I will manually approve each record once the student passes the class, at the same time I mark them as certified in a skill and set their training and expiration dates.

To offer that kind of search, you need to the the Combo Multisearch add-on.

I assume you have a filter in the shortcode so that only approved records will show. This is explained here if you don’t know how to do that.

I figured that would be the answer. I just couldn’t find “filter search results” specified in the documentation anywhere. Thanks!

Bought and installed Combo Multisearch. Once I realized that I have to add supress=true to the shortcode, the list and search results load exactly as I want them to. Will you please explain the difference in “pdb-list template=multisearch” and “pdb-search template=multisearch”? If I understand correctly, pdb-list confines the entire operation to one page and pdb-search allows you to run a query against the DB and display results somewhere outside of the original search page?

The short answer is the pdb_search shortcode is only used when you need to place the search control in a different location from the results display. I have a page that gives you the run-down on the pdb_search shortcode, why and how you’d use it.
