Request Invoice does nothing?

I activated the option “Enable Request Invoice” in the premium options, so when ordering a product I see the “request invoice” checkbox. But nothing happens when checked. The customer gets three mails (order complete, thank you, confirmation), none includes an invoice. When I check the order in the backend I don’t see any created invoice.
There was no error or notice during the ordering process.
How can I enable/fix the request invoice option?
