Need some help with upload & edit WordPress theme

  • Hello friends!

    Recently I downloaded few WordPress themes to be used with eCommerce website,
    my website host (GoDaddy) has cPanel and WordPress installed already,
    I tried tp upload as the simple steps, but always seeing an error (file unzipped)

    could you please advise if any recommended tutorial videos about this?
    Actually I searched on YouTube few times, but could not find what I looking for exactly,

    All what I need specifically:
    1) upload the selected theme from my desktop to WordPress host website and get it installed,
    2) customize / rename the tabs, sub-tabs, and the whole contents as per the needed purpose,

    Would be very much appreciated if anyone can advise and recommend accordingly,

  • 1. It sounds like your server either isn’t allowed to, or can’t, unzip the themes archive file. I’d recommend uploading the theme files through FTP. That way you’ll know that they are there, and you won’t need to worry about what your server isn’t doing.

    2. That’s a very (and Imean very) big question. The best advice is to create a child theme, and make your edits in there. That way you can just delete any files that go bad, and you won’t loose your edits when the theme updates.

    As for hwo to do the changes to the theme, that depends on the theme itself and what it does or doesn’t allow.

    It would help to know the exact theme you are trying to upload. Usually, you should be able to install a theme from a .zip file by going to appearance>themes in your admin panel and choosing “upload theme”. Sometimes, if the theme is very large you may need to install it by uploading it via your hosting control panel. Many themes include at least basic documentation on how to install them.

    1) upload the new theme from your WordPress dashboard.

    Below the link for update the theme on your WordPress dashboard.

    Appearance > Themes > Add New

    2) Change the theme name and customize the tabs name:

    wp-content/themes/customizr

    Follow the steps:

    i) Download the you needed theme.
    ii) Replace the theme name and theme link in your local using any one editor like notepad, sublime.

    Hi,
    I managed to upload it,
    it was a bundle zipped of plugins and slides zipped together with the main file of the theme itself,
    However, the features of the front store with the display is not look like as the way I want it to be,
    could be advise how to edit it?
    I mean how to rename the tabs, and sub-tabs, contents etc,
    beside the contact form information,
    Also, I may consider to purchase a professional responsive ecommerce theme, if you have any recommendation please advise, my website is comparison engine that combines products from Amazon, eBay, and soon will add more products from AliExpress, Wlamart etc,

    From that, it sounds like you bought that theme somewhere? If so, you should go back to the vendor or author for support on those matter.

    Commercial themes aren’t supported here, mainly because the volunteers on these forums don’t have access to the code, and part of the money that you paid for the theme is for support.

    Install Theme by File Manager

    You can also install the theme using your cpanel file manager.

    Here you required zip file of your theme if you purchased theme then no problem if you using free theme download theme zip file from www.ads-software.com.

    First, log in to your cpanel account and click on file manager.

    Click On File Manager

    Now go to this path ‘public_html/wp-content/themes/’ (Note: Maybe this path different in your case, it depends on where you install your WordPress).

    Click on the Upload and Select File from your PC. Once you select file its automatic upload on this directory.

    Once the file upload 100 % click on the Go back.

    Click On Go Back

    Now you can see your zip file here. The theme is in a compressed format but we require it in a simple form.

    So select the file and click on the Extract and its ask you where you want to extract it. Don’t change path and click on the Extract File.

    Dicompress Theme File

    You can see the folder of the theme and now you can delete the zip file from this directory.

    Finally, go to Appearance >> Themes and you can see here your theme. Click on Activate to activate your theme.

    (Note: Don’t delete any file in file manager because its all are important.)

    Delete Unnecessary Theme

    Once you select your theme for your WordPress website and final this theme then delete your all unnecessary theme that you install but you don’t like it. It make your WordPress website fast. Follow this step to delete theme on WordPress:

    First login to WordPress admin area and click on Appearance >> Themes.

    On next step select the theme that’s you want to delete and click on Delete button and click on Ok.

    Click On Delete Button

    And its done!
