Copyright and Prevention question.

    I hope you can clear my doubt here. This will open my eyes to deal with future clients as well.

    I got this client, and i’m doing the 1st wordpress website alfasteel.pt for him.
    He’s a little IT minded, but not a developer, and he’s busy!

    He’s been delaying payments when the website is not only almost finished but way better than what he originally wanted for the little amount of money i am doing it for!

    At this moment until i host the site myself he has access to Cpanel and FTP.
    – He could have backed up the latest WP skeleton which means he can deploy the website anytime and not pay me what he still owes me.
    – He can change the password via phpMyAdmin and access wp-admin.

    The only way to prevent problems is to host the website myself!
    I updated the copyright section on the footer with my website i’m starting to develop.

    Questions are:

    – How can i protect myself, and prove ownership of the website?
    – What other measures/precautions can i take?

    While these are important issues for a development business, they’re not support forum questions and are best addressed on your own blog or in other developer forums.

    What I do is do the development on my own server. The site does not go live until we receive the final payment. (That’s in our contract.) The site owner gets access to the site to view during the entire process. As we get close to finishing, I’ll create a WP account for the client so we can start training on how to use WP.
