Most themes allow you to choose to display an Excerpt OR the Full Post on the blogroll page but this theme does not. Can you please add this functionality in future updates or tell us how to make this happen without modifying via a child theme like we have to do now. Thanks much!

  • Same issue here. WordPress let us choose if show each full post or an extract (and how much posts). However, TwentySeventeen do ALWAYS show full posts, whichever I select.

    Please, any solution?

Are you asking how to make an excerpt from the Homepage instead of displaying the full post/ page/ section?

I have an intro webpage and other “blog” page where I only show posts. The post appears all complete, instead a brief extract (as I choosed in “Read” option on WP. In this theme, posts are always show complete, whatever I select (extract/full post content).

Have you tried using the “more” while editing ? It places <!–more–> and the extract up to that point is showm.

You gave me the correct answer. It was my fault. I always thought the text truncation were did automatically by WP. I inserted the “more” tag and is working fine.

Andrew, you asked “Are you asking how to make an excerpt from the Homepage instead of displaying the full post/ page/ section?” and yes that is our question. Adding a More to make it work is a possible workaround but I still find it confusing and frustrating for my clients to use a theme provided by WordPress that doesn’t have a working functionality like it should. When one chooses to show excerpts this functionality should work, don’t you agree? Right now it only shows full posts regardless.

Yes, it used to be that so many characters were excerpted automatically. (I like this change, as you are really in control of content.) However, you can copy a few lines (XX characters/words) — or compose your own excerpt — and place it in the EXCERPT box further down on the new post page.

I think that’s a great idea too. As Stilman says, it give us more control about what we want the user to see in shorten posts page.
