Parmalink problems

    I am having trouble with a large number products that are not showing up, once I go in the back end of the product click on edit permalink and click OK without changing anything and than updating the product it becomes visible on the front end. I have cleared cache on the hosting site as well as going to permalink setting changing the structure to plain and back to custom saving each time to no avail.
