Newspage RSS Aggregator

  • I use a very old rss aggregator plugin called newspage in an existing webpage I’ve had for years. When setting up a new website I get an error when activating.

    I made a page on my existing site detailing the error in new installation, and have screenshots of existing installation. Link to page included below.

    The creator of newspage has not updated plugin in 6 years and has not responded to support request. I emailed creator directly and posted on the plugin page.

    I hope someone here can help, or take over the plugin and give it a minor update. The only improvement this plugin needs (beyond getting to work in a new WP install) is the ability to click & hold on a feed to move it up or down.

    I have installed other RSS aggregators, but cannot get any to work since I do not understand them.

    I briefly checked out WP RSS Aggregator, but have not had time to study it in depth.

    The link in my first post shows my website. All the news tabs are RSS links via newspage. Can WP RSS Aggregator make feed pages like this?

    I viewed the site for WP RSS Aggregator. It appears to be very robust, but IMHO overly complicated for what I use my website for, a plain no frills news site for personal use. I have used the newspage plugin all these years because it was painlessly simple to implement and maintain.

    I would happily make a contribution to anyone who would take charge of newspage and fix it. The link to donate to the newspage plugin says “This recipient is currently unable to receive money.”

    The newspage error message is:
    Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘new’ (T_NEW) in /home/jchobbes/public_html/wp-content/plugins/newspage/simplepie.inc on line 720
