Please add the alternative text attribute (alt) to the thumbnail post link. This is needed to meet minimum ADA accessibility requirements. I think the code is in the loop-inner.php template file around line 40. Looks like it would be a one-line change. We are using the option to resize our thumbnail. You can set the alt text to the title like I see on line 45. We are using the latest PHP version. We ran the WAVE accessibility tool on our site and these links pop out with errors due to lack of alt text.

I’m coming into a project that I’m needing to redesign – ACF was set up long before I came into it. It is a site with auctions, and the posts have a custom field for the date of the auction. That being said, the custom field for the date was, for some reason, set as a text field (where they type date format Y-m-d) instead of a date picker.

What I’m trying to do is set up a post query with your plugin that calls upcoming auctions in ASC order of the Meta Value “date”, but only show those where that date is after today. I’ve tried some suggestions in other tickets here, but haven’t figured it out yet (I’m not well versed in ACF or PHP).

Is there any command to add the “Excerpt” into the Before or After loop field?

Maybe something like [wp excerpt]?

Thanks for your work with the plugin! I used it to show a list of recent post in a sidebar widget. The first problem to me was, that the list of urls is shown in h3 headlines, whereas the other widgets output isn’t. I changed this in the source-code. Next I found a problem in my 404-plugin, showing an endless call for ?css/images/ui-icons_222222_256x240.png” which isn’t to be found in the plugin. Next I tried to view /img/logo.png locally and it produced a serious error saying ?not a png picture”, though I could open it with GIMP.

I am trying to add a shortcode instead of a widget and the popup modal window is getting cut off at the bottom. I can scroll until I can barely see the Default Styles option, then cannot scroll any further.

I’ve tried this on a live site and a test site and have the same issue.

Hopefully I’m not the only one with this issue. Thanks for the support and a nice free plugin.

We are experiencing an issue where updating the plugin causes every widget instance to disappear. We have rolled back the plugin to the version we had before the update (5.1.1) and the widgets re-appear. We have about 50 widgets set up, so re-creating following the plugin update is not really an option, though the entries are clearly not removed from the database, as they do return when we roll back the code.

No errors come up in the logs that might provide clues here. Deactivating and re-activating makes no difference. Cache clears make no difference.

Not sure what changed between these versions that may have caused this. I do see that the $domain variable changed, not sure if that might be having an effect somehow.

I think it would be nice if we could specify a message when there are no posts that match the criteria (or any posts at all).
Now the widget returns nothing, and when it’s the only widget on the page, it’s kinda weird ??

Hi thanks for a great plugin. I am creating an event listing using a custom post type and wondered if it was possible somehow to have the title on the same line as the acf custom fields I am using? For now the title is always appearing above and the only options for custom fields seems to be above or below the title.

I’m using this to show upcoming events in the sidebar which is working nicely but if I change the order from DSC to ASC I get all my old events showing.

Is there a way to say only show the next 5 events in ASC order greater than today’s date?

I’ve modified the template to fit my needs but to avoid my changes being removed when the plugin updates where should I put my template?

I’ve tried creating a folder within my theme called ‘acf-recent-posts-widget’ and then placing the templates in the root and that didn’t work I’ve also tried a sub directory called ‘templates’ but that didn’t work either.

Is there any way to target a selected item to show the related posts to the selected term? I am trying to put it in my drop down menu and would love it to show most recent posts of “Weddings” when weddings is selected and most recent “personal” when personal is selected

My image field that I created in ACF was doing fine (linking to image url), I had it inserted via shortcode, but I recently updated the widget and now the image is gone, Devtools says the url is for the default image. I don’t want to use the featured image functionality for the posts because of conflicts on the actual post page, but is there a way to display an image field via shortcode without using the thumbnail?

Note: I realize I can do this using templates, was curious if it was possible without messing with files.

I am using Page Builder by SiteOrigin to build my pages.
My website has been set up for a while now and I just added this plugin so I can list all my Blog categories in widgets on one page.

I installed this plugin and it saw the 4 categories (under “Limit to Category”) when I added the widget using Page Builder. Then I edited a category’s name and that displayed correctly in “Limit to Category”.

Next I added a new category but the new category does not show up on the options page under “Limit to Category”.

I also went to the property page of a new page to add the short code and the new category does not show up under “Limit to Category”

I do run WP Rocket but I have cleared the cache and disabled the plugin.

How do I get the “Limit to Category” to update with the new categories I create?

In the documentation you mention that you can have a “Different template per widget / sidebar”. I understand that this is based on the widget id, however I am not understanding how this is applied. In my theme I have a directory ‘acfrpw’ which contains ‘loop-inner.php’. This template works fine to modify ALL acf recent posts widgets, but I would like to specifically target a particular widget. I have the widget id for the specific widget I would like to modify further (widget-1-0-1), but I am not sure how it should be applied to override the default custom template that I already have in place. Should I create another template that uses the widget id in the filename? Or something else? Thanks!

This is one of the best plugin I use, thank you!

I have used it to display only thumbnails from posts and then used CSS to show these as I want. I have use the function “Exclude Post ID” and listed the post-ID to exclude, but this only works for the logged in users, not the logged out ones. The logged out users can still see all the posts.

I this some error, have I used it wrong or is my troubleshooting wrong?

Is there a way to force the layout into multiple columns so that when I have a lot of content the items wrap to the next column? I refer you to https://schoolofbookkeeping.com/webinars/ and notice that this is two widgets embedded on a page: one with Live and one with Recorded. Recorded are long and growing and I’d like to make it wrap on another column. I will do this with two widgets and show one to first 50 and then the next to 50+ but it would be awesome to automate this.

Using the plugin to display recent events with custom post type, works fine all ordered by meta etc. I really need to only display events that have occured before today using custom field ‘event_start’. I gather i can add a hook into my functions.php but cant figure out what it would look like. Any dieas how this can be achevied?

update: Ah! I re-read the documentation and was able to put them in a blog folder “acfrpw-blog”. Is there a way to add the suffix in the shortcode so I could have different templates? ex. “acfrpw-latest”

update 2: awww, looks like the sub-directory is hard coded. I guess all I can do is a feature request. Be able to put something like this template=”suffix” in the shortcode and having files in the blog direction named slug-name-suffix.

I set a path to an image for “Default Thumbnail” and it does not display for posts (custom post type) that do not have a featured image assigned. Isn’t this what it is suppose to do?

I’m using the plugin to display posts on my front page and have been trying to optimize my performance and page speed rank. I use ShortPixel image compressor which is a bit like wp-smush in that it creates compressed versions of the images at different sizes.

When I check my site on PageSpeed, it is marking me down for not “specifying image dimensions”. I do actually specify them in the widget settings where I set the width of the images to 1150px wide. I will assume then that it is some kind of meta info seo type thing that is not getting specified. is there something that I can do about this?

I’m using your plugin on a few sites now and love it ??

On one of my sites I am trying to use the excerpt length and read more button features but they are not working. I am using custom excerpts as I use a page builder which uses a lot of shortcodes which mess up the standard excerpt. I understand that this is a problem for your plugin but I was wondering why and if there is anything I can do about it?

Wonderful plugin – I have been searching for this kind for a week!

My purpose is to display recent pages and this allowes me to do so. The only problem is that I do not seem to find a way to give the whole output custom title.
I use shortcode (button in the editor which helps to create the code) and though in the screenshots/ images you have uploaded here and there I see title input area but in mine there is no such place (or am I really blind?!). If that is the case then still – would you kindly show me the way? There might be something funny because in my wp installation the shortcode creator appears often so, that I have to zoom out browser to get to the “save” button. Other ways it stays out of reach.

I did try in the shortcode title=”title” but that did not seem to change the default one. Default one is the page′s title and like this I have now two exactly same titles on the page.

Is there any way to make the entire
li link to the post instead of just the thumbnail? I tried to go into the loop inner of your plugin and put the anchor to permalink before and after the li with no luck.

Problem 1)
The ‘display thumbnail’ checkbox is not working. To be fair, however, I’m using ACF for the images attached to my post, but added

to my functions.php file to get wordpress to recognize my custom post $image as my featured image. Facebook seems to recognize it, but the ACFRPW does not.

Problem 2)
Ok, no big deal, right? I’m using a custom field for my image so I’ll just include the shortcode [acf image] in the widget.

This results in ‘/wp-includes/images/media/default.png’ being added to each recent post, instead of the actual image being populated in the post by the $image field.

I have this set up actually working on another site that is not using ACF Pro. No clue why it would work there and not here.

I’m a very inexperienced user creating a site for a professor of mine. We are trying to use the ACF recent posts widget to display custom fields built with ACH after the post title on the front page. Basically a little extra information about the post like what course it came from.

I have two setup now, Author and Course. I see that I can use ACF keys in the html section of the ACF recent posts widget, but it doesn’t seem to be displaying correctly when I use get-field or the-field.

What would enter in that field to display the Author and Course custom fields?

I’ve tried post=53 (what shows up in the address bar in the admin panel), post-id=53, forum-id=53 and a few other tries as well.
