The title of the widget doesn’t show in the side bar

I have the widget set on “Get posts from current category” but many posts belong to 2 categories whom one is a Featured Category

How can I exclude the Featured category when it gets posts from current categories? Should it work if I keep checked the box “Get posts from current category” and then I add to “Categories:” field the category number with minus, like -34?

i have paid version of word press and I’m not satisfied with how it works. I can get themes and try them but not one of them can i get a thumbnail to show the actual picture I have posted. I get a big fat W on my facebook page if someone wanted to show someone a comment. What can be done about this? I don’t get it. I’ve searched and see the problem has been going on for years. what do you do?

I’m trying to get more control of the post title and “Read More” in Advanced Recent Posts Mod and have figured out how to wrap the title in a div but I haven’t figured out how to wrap “Read More” in a div without interfering with the php code.

Can you clue me in?

Hi, Love the power and flex of your tool.

I’m trying to use it as a “Latest News” sidebar and I need to include my custom fields for “source” and “author” under the date. I don’t even need to have them exist in the UI as an option, it could just be the default. Is there a (relatively) easy way to do this by modifying that “adv-most-recent.php” file?

first of all, great plugin, well thought out. but one slight feature missing. there is no way to show the featured image. as in the_post_thumbnail() or the_post_thumbnail_src().

also, this might be feature creep to a great plugin, but it might be nice to have a special tag which you could wrap around the post title. such as none, h1, h2, h3, h4…. or at least the ‘a’ link a class in the css so it can be altered.

To completely remove the widget’s main title, make this adjustment in adv-most-recent.php (v 1.6.5.1)

Find line 25, it looks like this:
$title = empty( $instance[ 'title' ] ) ? __( 'Recent Posts', 'adv-recent-posts' ) : apply_filters( 'widget_title', $instance[ 'title' ] );

Replace that line with this:
$title = empty( $instance[ 'title' ] ) ? '' : apply_filters( 'widget_title', $instance[ 'title' ] );

Hi,
I was wondering if the thumbnail is being regenerated to the size or it’s just IMG tag width and height scale down? Because the current module i’m using only does the scale down. Therefore, if my first image is big, it might take a lot of bandwidth to load it up.

if anyone know there is a “recent plugin” that regenerate the first img to an thumbnail please let me know.

Hello, I cant get the widget to show links to recent posts only from certain categories. I want to exclude some.

I pasted all the slugs (comma separated) into the categories field of the widget control panel…

This plugin is working great but there’s one problem I’m having – the automatically generated excerpts are cutting off in the middle of sentences. I’d like to have it use custom excerpts instead. Can this be done through a code hack, or will I need to use a different plugin?

Althoug there are several posts asking for a solution of a major issue and this was already fixed by hacking the source code (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-advanced-most-recent-posts-mod-maintaining-image-when-hide-post-titl?replies=5) more than 3 weeks ago, the latest update did not reflect it. Do they ever read the post to see if the community came up with a solution? Bad bad work. I really like this plugin but it’s not worth a donation. Sry, will do my own mods in future and won’t use this anymore.

I’m using the Advanced Most Recent Posts Md Plugin for quite a while.
I use it to have a list of recent posts on a sidebar, restricted to the current category.

Recently, I noticed that the feature of restricting to the current category when viewing a single post started producing erratic results.

After quite a while of troubleshooting I understood what0s going on..but I’m lacking some simple way to solve it.

So, in the same sidebar I’m using to show advanced recent posts, I’m showing some “featured posts” (posts belong to a special category).
These “featured posts” are shown above (that is before..) the advanced recent posts.

What’s happening is that when this plugin tries to get the current category, it gets the category of the last post displayed on the “featured posts” section and not of the post being shown.

I’ve read through the manuals and located the relevnat code section…but whatever I do I always get ID’s, categories, etc..related to last posts shown on “featured posts” section.

How do I work around this? How can I ensure that the advanced recent posts gets the main post being displayed and not the last one from some peevious query?

Any help would be much appreciated.

In my setup, and although the $afterexcerpt label was echoed correctly, the underlying URL was always the one at the top of the list.

Here is how I fixed this:

In line 411 I load the new url string in a new variable :$afterexcerptStr
if ($afterexcerptlink) $afterexcerptStr = ‘ID) . ‘”>’ . $afterexcerpt . ‘‘;

Then, I use this variable in line 418 in order to create the completed variable $excerpt.

I’ve been searching hard to find any answers to how to modify Advanced recent posts mod to work with WPML and I cen’t seem to find any answers.
Since I really like this plugin (thanks by the way) I’d love if I could use it on my multilingual site.
What I want is for the module to filter posts depending on current language.
If anybody could point me to some hacks or if there’s a version that supports multilingual content I’d appreciate it.

I need to show the recent posts using a template tag instead of using the widget. I’ve read in the FAQs page that the available arguments are listed in the developer’s site, but it seems that the site is down.

Can someone list all of the available arguments for the template tag?

<img> tag is within …, therefore when ‘hide title’ is selected the image is gone too. Any fix?

There is a bug with the widget when using qTranslate Plugin since it modifies the title content. The Output will be something like

<a title="<!--:de-->POSTTITLE IN GERMAN<!--:-->" href="https://..."><!--:de-->POSTTITLE IN GERMAN<!--:--></a>

Affects at least Plugin-Version 1.6.2 and below. It might also effect other plugins than qTranslate that hook the post title.

Fix
In advanced-most-recent-posts-mod/adv-most-recent.php replace

$post_title = stripslashes($post->post_title);

with

$post_title = get_the_title($post->ID);

This will make the hooks work right.

You should also use esc_attr for the title attribute in the link tag:
<a href="' . get_permalink($post->ID) . '" title="'. esc_attr($post_title) .'" >

when I use this plugin in individual sidebar box, everything works well, but when I put this widget into tabbed sidebar, it tab looks wield.
