Hello,
If anyone else needs to find a replacement for this discontinued plugin you can use the Widgets on Pages as a replacement. Eventually new widgets should be mostly installable as blocks anyway, but this works with legacy widgets using a shortcode.
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/widgets-on-pages/
It’s not exactly the same but can be used to do the same thing, namely put widgets on pages using a shortcode. Rather than directly adding a shortcode to a widget this plugin lets you create new sidebars, install any widget(s) on that sidebar and then insert that sidebar into a page using a shortcode. So there’s one additional layer of the new sidebar wrapping the widget, but gets the same job done in a slightly different way.
Also, if you just need to put an old widget on a page you can copy and paste it in as a block in Gutenberg, though you may not be able to then edit it. So, in some cases you may not need to go through the trouble of using something like Widgets on Pages, but it’s there if needed.
RIP amr

I’m struggling to implement a new plugin as it’s been awhile since I got this one working. Is there someone that can provided a recommended replacement plugin that I can use to display my recent posts onto my homepage (just one short code). I had been using a short code with this, and for some reason not sure how to find the short code to implement with an alternative solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

]]>I am using this lovely plugin to display navigation menus on pages. I am concerned that if Classic widgets is discontinued then this won’t work any more.
I had considered ai Could use a widget block instead, however the widget block does not list navigation menu widgets.
I tried the dedication tied navigation block, but that doesn’t work because it does not update if/when you update the actual menu that it refers to.
So could the discontinuation of Classic Widgets break my site?
Thanks

Hi,
I cannot display the “Filter products by attribute” widget on a tag page.
I have then tried adding to a tag-page description the shortcodes:
[do_widget id=woocommerce_product_tag_cloud-5][do_widget id=woocommerce_layered_nav-12] – and the first one is displayed correctly, the second one does not show up.
Moreover, as a test to confirm that the shortcode and the attribute are working, I tried pasting the exact same thing under Appearance> Customize> Woocommerce> Shop> Shop page Layout> Shop Page Banner Content and both widgets do show up, but the count for the attribute terms is wrong compared to that of the Product> Attributes> Attribute > Terms table (count column) – the latter is the correct count if I check some of the products attributes assignation. I removed it, because I only want them on the tag pages.
I also noticed that the shop page had no products after I fiddled with all of this and I had to update the permalinks, weird.
As a note to consider, I am using WPML for translations but I am not translating products because I upload them automatically every night and I deal with transaltions then. I would like to disable the WPML translating products in case this is somehow affecting it – which I wouldnt think so.
Best regards,
Jacobo

]]>I transferred my wordpress site from one hosting to another.
I transferred all my files and my site is up and running. However, when I look in my widgets, there are no widgets for short code (the widgets are missing). So if I add [do_widget id=hootkit-content-blocks-12] to my website, it causes an error that the WordPress site has errors. I’m assuming it is because the widgets themselves did not transfer over.
My question is where is the widget data stored? I imported my databases and copied over all of the files. Don’t know if I missed something or if I just have to create them again.

]]>Good Morning,
Since the WordPress 5.8 update WordPress seems to break this plugin, as well as the widget section within the WordPress dashboard.
After reading online we have tired some of the suggestions, the first being to install the Classics Widgets plugin, which gets the widgets section working again, the only thing being that everytime we click on a page with the widgets it links us back to the home screen everytime.
Have also tried downgrading to WordPress 5.7.3, as well as switching to the default WordPress theme, and the problem still persists.
If you have any ideas or suggestions of what else could be causing the issue, that would be great!
Kind Regards,
Andy
]]>I have this plugin that randomly picks an image. On the page it’s that joke just above the FEATURED section. But the image is always to the left.
Is there any way to center the widget?
Hi.
This is a great plugin. But I am not able to find a way to add arguments from the shortcode and use it in the “Text” widget.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks.
With a fresh WordPress 5.8.1, activating amr shortcode any widget leads to a non-functional Theme Customizer.
]]>WordPress 5.8 seems to have done some odd things with widgets. If you google keywords like wordpress+5.8+widgets+bug or have a look at https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/classic-widgets/#reviews, one can see many have had a nasty impact.
Using the classic widgets plugin seems to get one back to where one was before.
The new wordpress 5.8 widgets page somehow messes with the widget instance widget id (the wordpress one), resulting in a different id in the widget instance than what is recorded in the sidebars and in the widget settings that are stored. If one uses the Classic Widgets plugin, all works as before. This means that the shortcode prompt at the bottom of the widget settings has an incorrect widget id (it gets it from the widget instance, which now doesn’t match the settings). There is no guaranteed way to work back to the id that will work in the front end, if there are multiple instances of the same widget.
If you want to use the new widgets page please note:
1) if you are using wordpress widgets like tag clouds, rss, latest posts etc then you do NOT need this ‘shortcode any widget’ plugin anymore. These new versions of wp widgets are now available from the pages screen under the widgets section. No shortcode needed to include them in a page.
2) If you only have one instance of each widget in the ‘widgets for shortcodes’ sidebar, then you can use the widget name in the shortcode.
3) If you don’t see your desired widget in the new widgets page, wordpress may have moved it under ‘Legacy Widgets’ – these appear to be widgets by third party plugins or that are not in the new set of widgets that appear in the pgae/post post editor.
When this plugin is enabled and any one of the WordPress “default” themes (Twenty xyz) is active, then the Customizer fails to load. The preview is not displayed and the sidebar only shows the item “Widgets” but there is nothing in it.
I also checked by disabling all plugins and only enabling this plugin. Same.
With other themes, this isn’t happening.
All themes und plugins are updated.
Maybe some issue with the new “Widgets” area, introduced in WP 5.8.
]]>It took me too long to find this plugin. Maybe you can alter or add different words because I never found it with the wp search page. Haha. Also one bug fix, if possible make it easy to select and copy the shortcodes. Currently the way wp core lays out the whole widget page it makes selecting text not possible in certain zones; specifically where the shortcode is displayed for your plugin. Perhaps you can add a settings page under settings that displays the shortcodes in a list so its easy to select and copy the shortcodes and also delete or edit the name of the shortcodes from there too.

]]>Hi everyone,
I’ve been using this plugin for a while now, but in the past several weeks there is a random dot appearing above the shortcoded widget on my posts/templates (I did test this out with a few different widgets, so it’s not the widget causing the issue). If you look at the post I linked, you can see the dot right above my “recent posts” widget in the middle of the article.
I checked my settings, and I can’t for the life of me figure out where this dot is coming from. Can anyone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this?
