Being able to see what preceded an error on a website is so immensely helpful that you cannot imagine it before you actually try it.
Especially when working with clients. So many times have we been able to identify the cause of an issue, as we could see that “Oh, this person edited that page last Monday” or “Aha, function x stopped working after updating plugin y”.
It’s also valuable to check if someone else is working on a website, before making major changes, not disturbing each of the others work.
Activity Log is installed on all my websites, and has been for years. It fills a gap that, weirdly enough, is present in a CMS that encourages multiple users and roles.
Highly recommended. Five stars easily ?????

Greate user logs to go back in time to see who have done something wrong. In my opinion, this is a must plugin

I have installed this plugin on all my clients websites which helps me keep track of who did what making troubleshooting any issues quick and simple when something goes wrong.
I could have created a similar plugin myself, but what’s the point when the authors of Activity Log have already done such a great job? So, instead, I coded a script to send the info from this plugin to a central database where I can keep an eye on all client sites in one place, which is definitely easier than checking each one individually.
The only thing that is kind of annoying about this plugin is the Elementor ad a the top of the admin back-end. I am a big fan of Elementor for certain types of sites and use it on many sites, but I don’t need or want my clients to see these ads because it looks very unprofessional.
I certainly don’t mind having ads there if they support the authors in keeping plugins updated, but it can be quite annoying when they are, as the phrase goes, “in your face”.

WP Plugin guidelines state that plugins should not create a top level navigation element in /wp-admin if it’s not necessary.
That and the ad for Elementor made for an instant uninstall for me.

A really simple activity log, easy to use. The UI is intuitive and search feature is nice. There aren’t a lot of options or feature but it does what I need it to, and it’s free.

This is one of simple, easy to use plugin and, never broke or had any issue despite being free. This plugin really helps to find out the unauthorized and malicious activity with ease. I really appreciate the good work. Thank you so much.

Love it! Have it installed on about ~300 sites, no issues except one site that was getting slammed with spam login attempts and the log grew to big to quick but ultimately this plugin helped identify the need to restrict the login url.

An earlier review reported failure to activate and impossible to delete: I suspect that those issues were caused by an out-of-date WordPress and PHP installation.
I upgraded and the plug-in does what it says it does.

It saved one of my client’s project requests. Simple, intuitive and it even exports information as CSV! Thank you developers! ??

<p>Very good plug-in and never had any issues, I installed it on many websites so far, and no problem. Very useful!</p>

Plugin brought up a lot of logs that just weren’t correct. It said different things had been tampered with but that hadn’t happened. Just got people worried.
Not sure why, support never answered question.

I also added this check in my theme functions.php
, to disable editor access:
add_action('admin_menu', function () {
if ( !current_user_can('administrator')) {
remove_menu_page('activity_log_page');
}
}, 999);
add_filter( 'aal_init_caps', function () {
return array(
'administrator' => array( 'administrator', 'editor', 'author', 'guest' ),
);
});

I can see my (admin’s role) activity log fine. I see when I updated, create users, products, etc. But for custom created users (like Data Entry Clerks) this plugin doesn’t show anything else aside of when they login and logout………. which means this is useless for me.

this plugin is very light and accurate
but please add an option to monitor only an specific roles or users
thank you

This plugin works great. Sometimes too good as it logs every spam-bot. I am getting around 2000 hits every 24 hours. I asked for help without any response for weeks. So time to remove the plugin.

Good plugin, but can lead to critical errors for no reason when deactivating some plugins.
I sent a message on the support forum but got no answer (and saw that issues reported more than one month ago didn’t receive any answer also)… Could lead to more severe issues… too bad, I liked that plugin.

This plugin proved to be of great value while we were trying to understand how our website got hacked. It is simple, effective and essential when ot comes to security. Use it along with a malware scanner and / or firewall plugins and you website will be significantly much safer!

The Plugin is amazing and we’re now using this as a standard at our company. It would be good if this could monitor whenever a plugin without an action made by an admin. It looks like if you disable a plugin by renaming it’s folder, Action Log will not send any notifications

The plugin shows my server IP instead of customer IP. Also, there is no support at all.

This may not be the fanciest of plugins, but it does what I need it to do – tells me what happened when, so if something breaks on my site, I can track down what caused it.
Importantly, it doesn’t slow down my site either, like some other audit trail plugins I’ve tried.

This plugin makes it a piece of cake to keep an eye on what’s happening on your WordPress site.
The reason I installed this plugin was to spot any illegitimate attempts to login, the plugin does this perfectly, showing time and IP address, really simple to use and interpret.
The update to 4.8.2 stopped the plugin working, this was fixed quickly and without fuss.

If you’re using a vanilla WordPress install without custom roles, this plugin works pretty well.
Otherwise, it doesn’t display actions taken by a user with a custom role (So no seeing when “Customers” have logged in, for example.). The pagination and filtering in the UI frequently break. The data is stored in the database just fine, and it looks like there are some filters that can be used to fix this, for developers.

It’s really one of my vital plugins as I can know whatever user of any role is upto. Suggestion is if they can provide access to cloud drives, we can maintain our logs forever so we can trace back any activities.
