It seems this plugin is abandoned.
Any WP 5.5 compatible alternative?

Hello ?? thanks for this wonderful plugin which was so useful. This plugin is important to many WordPress users. I happens not to be compatible with Gutenberg.
If you don’t plan on maintaining it anymore, I am willing to take over this plugin maintenance and make it compatible with Gutenberg. I already started to code and I am on a good way to complete it.

What is the reason that you are not developing this plugin ?!

Hi there,
I found a bug when running your plugin on PHP 7.2. Also, I’m using the Docker wordpress container running latest.
Warning: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/author-category/author-category.php on line 119
They’ve implemented stricter rules on the count() function and in your plugin there is a count($cat) > 0
that I believe is the culprit.
public function user_default_category_option($false){
$cat = $this->get_user_cat();
if (!empty($cat) && count($cat) > 0){
return $cat;
}
return false;
}
Can you add a check to see if the $cat is_array() first before counting?
Love your plugin, gives me the permissons I need without all the extra weight of some of these massive role/permissions editor plugins.
Keep up the great work!

I would like to be able to select author category when creating a new user on my site. Is there any way you could add the author category selection to the new user form? Now everytime I add a new user I have to go edit the user right away and choose their category. It would skip one step (and make my life a little easier) if I could select new users category right away when adding them to my site.

Can you please update the plugin to use wp_get_current_user() instead of get_currentuserinfo()?
Thanks!
]]>Hello,
I understand the setting is valid for wordpress standard post, but if I am using a portfolio plugin, and there is category in this portfolio plugin, in this situation, the portfolio is custom post type, so how to set or limit authors to choose only one portfolio category item?
Thanks for in advance, have a nice day.

]]>Hello,
Thank you for your plugin!
My website is using WPML. All categories are translated in each language.
It seems that I need to select the categories in each language for an user.
Is there a way to take into account the translated categories in order to select the categories only one time?
Thanks in advance.
]]>Hello and thanks for the great plugin.
I’m gonna use this plugin to limit my authors’ access to my website’s categories.
The question I’m gonna ask may sound a little bit irrelevant.
I’m gonna show some of my authors in the homepage of my website. Like for instance, I’ll show Cat#1, Cat#2 and Cat#3 in homepage, and their authors (their name + avatar). But unfortunately I have no idea how to do that.
Since this plugin limits authors’ access to categories, I thought you can help me on this issue. I suppose you use some function to apply this limit, a function that can also be used to do what I said above.
Thanks in advance

]]>Hi! I love this plugin. One feature that would make it even better would be the ability to batch-apply categories to authors (in the same way you can bulk change the categories of posts from the ‘All posts’ page). Is this possible?
Thanks,

I would make a user loop by category , someone could help me please?
]]>Hi,
Thanks for the great plugin.
I was wondering if it would be possible to assign a category to a user upon registration (automatically.
So upon user registration a (child-)category would be assigned to him/her e.g. user_id/my-category/my-posts.
User should be limited to posting/editing/deleting only in the grandchild category (my-posts) and be able to create/edit/delete new categories in the child category (my-category).
Would such be possible?
Thanks in advance for your feedback!
]]>Hi there,
I installed the latest WordPress and plugin version yesterday, no problems so far. But after creating two users (myself as admin and a friend as user) I can assign categories to both posts and users (via Author Category), but my decision is barely ignored by the plugin: I can still see posts from other categories instead of just the one i assigned to the user.
I guess it’s common behaviour that the admin can see ALL content, but it should be the case for the normal user, right? Any help or suggestions what I did wrong so far? :/
Thanks for help!
Matt
I have created new “authors” but when I post an article, it doesn’t appear in our “authors page”

I’ve read the old topic about how to use the plugin for Custom Post Types but I don’t know where to include the code. Is it still working like that and could you give me some advice what I have to do?

Precondition:
WP 4.0
Author Category: 0.8
In user profile I have made sure Author is able to make selections between two categories. In the Author Category plugin settings I have made sure no default categories are selected.
Reprosteps:
When Author is writing new blogpost for the first time, Autor is able to select one of the categories. Secondly Author is publishing the blogpost. So far so good. But now Author realise he has made a mistake and wants to edit the same blogpost. Now Author is editing his previously made blogpost.
Actual result:
When Author is editing his previously made blogpost, NO category is selected.
Expected result:
Once Author is going to edit an excisting blogpost the previously selected category should be visible (ticked off).
Hey there. Question about this plugin. I want to have a sidebar on a category archive page that shows the contributors (author) and their bio. I would like to loop though the users, get all authors who have a category checked off and list them. Can you help me figure out how to get that data looping through the users. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for creating this plugin.
Regards,
Dave
