I spent hours searching online trying to figure out how to do this and had almost given up.

I knew it was possible to get the avatar, but don’t have the programming skills to know how to display it.

I didn’t want a button added to the editor so anyone could insert a shortcode, only me as Admin.

What a gem of a find. Well done.
