I successful installed the restore to my new server, however, all the menu links haven’t changed. They link back to the older server.
Also, when you go to the login page, it redirects to the old site. How can I fix this?

]]>Hello,
I have used your pluggin many times before and it always worked well but this time I am encountering something different.
I am trying to move this fairly big site (246 meg).
The .zip won’t appear in manage backups but I can see it when I FTP.
In the target site I run the script and everything seems to run fine.
But When I try to open the target address I am being sent to the install page in a loop manner (see link). Also the target database is still blank.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks
Guillaume

]]>Hi – love the backup move plugin and I’ve used it on both of my websites. I was wondering if there is any way (or any plan to enhance) to exclude folders from the backup which is created?
One of my sites has a cache folder which grows quite large over time and I don’t really need to back it up (it gets created again if the folder doesn’t exist)
Thanks in advance!

]]>I can create a backup, which I assume is a good image of my blog. I can find it using cpanel or filezilla. I just can’t find it using the manage backups button.
If these backups are good then I don’t really care. I can get them with one of the above methods.
Is it a good backup and what should I do, if anything, to make it appear in the manage backups. Does manage backups also take care of restoring the blog in some way. I would think that would be a filezilla or cpanel upload.
I don’t know what I am asking. I guess.
Are the backups good and what is the restore method should I need it?

]]>When I clicked restore.php, Chrome blocked my access with a big red screen stating that what I was trying to do contained malware from logiclord.com.
With this plugin being hosted in the WordPress repository I decided to go ahead and run it. This may have been a false positive because of the invasive nature of this type of restoration (overwriting the config file and all) but it made me feel uncomfortable having that happen.
It did end up doing a very mediocre job of restoring my site.
Although the basic elements of my site were restored (in other words, I could recognize the theme), it was by no means a complete restoration of my original site. Pretty much nothing was where it should have been. It was obvious that most of the theme and plugin configurations had been lost.
Mind you, I have done a lot of work on this site, and it has many custom configurations, so I would have been impressed if it had been perfect, but it was not even close.
This plugin may work with simple WordPress sites with few modifications, but I cannot recommend it from my experience with it.
Still, to try to create a plugin to perform an automated restoration is an impressive undertaking, and I thank the developer for the time and effort invested in developing this plugin.
I am going to try XCloner and see if it does a better job.

1) WordPress database-core only?
2) same as 1 + installed plugins db tables?
3) same as 1 + uploaded files, i.e. images, PDF?
4) same as 2 + 3?
5) full wordpress database + full wordpress folder?
6) other variation?
Restoration:
7) Does wordpress need to be installed on new site prior to restore?
8) Can restore be launched from any folder of the new host?
9) Can the WP database and Db table prefix on new host be different from original site. If so are links to images and links within posts updated automatically during restoration?
Thanks in advance for your precisions

]]>This plugin does a great job. I was rather confused at first, and was put off by the initial teething problems reported by people. But it worked – and better than I expected.
Using a child theme, I had some layout and CSS issues and I wondered if this would make it fall over. It did, but I activated the main theme, then activated the child theme, and my layout was returned.
One thing it didn’t do was to carry over the sidebars & widgets, but luckily I imported these from the theme on the previous site.
It also didn’t update my Slider Pro Plugin settings, the URLs were pointing to images on the previous site. This was a simple case of exporting the Plugin XML, doing a find & replace to insert the new URL, and then I imported the new settings. I just had to update the new Slider ID in the shortcode on the relevant pages.
All in all, this plugin saved me hours of grief. A well earned donatation on it’s way, my thanks for a brilliant resource!

I’d like to move a site that is running 3.1.2 to a 3.1.3. Will this work? I want to make sure if I install it that it won’t break the site. I don’t have cpanel access or ftp access, so to fix it could take too much time. The guy that set it up does not answer our emails, which is why we would like to move it to our cpanel account.
Might there be an update coming out soon?

]]>The actual back up if fine. The restore is very flakey. It only works if you have a password. I’m doing some testing using localhost only works without password.
To get the plugin to work I had to modify the restore.php file to accept a null password.
It also struggled a bit to overwrite an existing installation.
A bit of validation would make life so much easier.

]]>I was very excicted to find this plugin because it could potentially fulfill an extremely important function. Until now, moving a WordPress site to another directory or domain is a technical job beyond the skill of most users. This plugin could do the job with only a few modifications. I am actually ready to make this modification myself so please bear with me. Here is what needs to happen (taking account for the fact that creating a new database in phpmyadmin is going to be beyond the skill of most people and unnecessarily complicated
1) Make a backup of the source site with the plugin. In the backup, show the url of the backup file
2) Create the new site with fantastico or wordpress auto-installer (just to get the database created)
3) Install Backup-and-move on the new site, and have a button “restore from backup” (rather than having to copy and upload restore.php) and enter the url to the old site. Backup-and-move just needs to read the database from wp-config.php (rather than prompt the user)
4) If old installation detected, provide ability to overwrite (rather than stopping)
That’s all. What do you think?

]]>The backup process is generating PHP Fatal error: Class ‘ZipArchive’ not found in backup_and_move_zip.php on line 9.
Despite the error, the plugin does create a backup of the site. But it’s not zipped.
From what I’ve been able to discover, it would appear that PHP on this particalar server didn’t have the required option compiled in when it was set up.
Looking through WordPress itself – it looks like WordPress gets around the problem by reverting to PclZip if ZipArchive isn’t available. – See /wp-admin/includes/file.php around line 598
(I’m not 100% sure if that’s correct. But it seems logical given that I’m able to unzip upgrades)
Is there any chance of adding the same support to the Backup and Move plugin?
