Running WP 6.0 now.
Error raised today:
An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 34 of the file /home/*/blog/wp-content/plugins/bad-behavior/bad-behavior/banned.inc.php. Error message: Uncaught TypeError: dechex(): Argument #1 ($num) must be of type int, string given in /home/*/blog/wp-content/plugins/bad-behavior/bad-behavior/banned.inc.php:34
Looks like it chokes on IPv6 addresses.
As a consequence, I disable and deinstall now the abandoned plugin.

I’ve given this plugin various opportunities throughout my decade of using WordPress, and while it does work to filter out spam comments for the most part, so do a lot of other plugins. If it wanted to stand out, it needs to not cause problems with my websites themselves. Unfortunately, it’s come to my attention that it’s not working friendly with PHP version 7.2 which is what my hosting service is recommending me to use at this time. If a plugin is not keeping up to date with basic PHP versioning and giving my site loading problems, I’d be better off with other solutions.

Although sometimes it can be tricky if you get a false positive, those are pretty rare (haven’t seen one in a couple years). Works well to keep bad actors off your site.

Disconnects MWP irrevocably.

I was using Bad Behavior and suddenly my iThemes Sync plugin locked me out of 7 websites. Bad news. After much troubleshooting, I had to log in to all sites individually to whitelist the ips.
Don’t know why this happened overnight and to all the websites, but if such behavior continues I will have to uninstall Bad Behavior.

This has been a “Must have” on every site I build. It cooperates with every plugin that I have used for years and simply works. No fuss at all no conflicts and so easy to set up.

I’m a long term user of this plugin. It just works!

Bad Behavior has protected us for some time now, always there and reliable.
Thank you~

I installed this plug-in only to be locked out of my own site. I have no idea what happened — I whitelisted my IP address and am using the same machine that logged in and setup the plug-in less than a day ago.
This is clearly buggy and unreliable. Avoid it at all costs, unless you want to be blacklisted from your own site and waste hours trying to resolve it.

Ever since activating Bad Behavior, We are forced to sign back into the dashboard every 5 minutes and whenever anything is saved. As soon as any staff member signs back in, all of the changes that had made to the site, a post, or other element reverts back to the previous save. Nearly every time the plugin dropped a staff member from the site, it would load a white/grey screen with the text, “Cheatin’, eh?”
The settings for Bad Behavior are all either set to “recommended” or were left alone after activation. Our IP addresses and logins were added to the whitelist, but that had no effect.
It’s difficult to say if this plugin even works because even though it said it had blocked over 300 spam/negative activities, it still allowed several spam users to join our BuddyPress and create spammy groups.
As soon as Bad Behavior was deactivated, we haven’t had any problems with staying signed in.

After the problems with Googlebots, I decided to test other plugins. But it seems I did not find the best solution for the moment… So I went back to Bad Behavior – wiht Cookies for comments in complement.

Works great! Installed for a week and already blocked over 600 attempts from comment spammers, referrer spammers, email harvesters, login bots, and other blacklisted IP’s.

This plugin will effectively block any visitors using waterfox (and possibly others).

Bad Behavior has reliably reduced the amount of comment spam I get on every site I have used it on. Nothing’s perfect, but this plugin has been much more effective than most for me.
I almost always configure it with my Project Honeypot API key.

I am getting 15 spam comments per hour. This plugin is not working.

I’ve been using Bad Behavior for more than a year. Very useful, it really block suspicious activities. For example, you’ll be blocked if you’re visiting the site using TOR or blaklisted proxies. But it alone is not powerful enough to blocks all the spams, you should also install antispam plugin. My recommendation is NoSpamNX plugin.
Bad Behavior + NoSpamNX = spamfree

Have been using it for a 4+ years and works really good, especially if you have any forms that need to filled out… stops almost all bots from accessing them!
Works well with Better WP Security plugin as well.
Thanks

I’m a long time user, and I love this thing! I have 3000 spam a month that I never see thanks to Bad Behavior.

I used it on my blogs but sometimes, Bad Behavior breaks thinks – like blocking Google bots because Google changed things. I believe the plugin’s author when he says it’s Google’s fault but… well. Google is Google.
