Tried to install: keymaster issue (so, cannot work at all).
fixed keymaster issue with bbp style plugin (a plugin to fix another plugin looks insane), now blank page.
tried to fix also this via bbp plugin, a lot of graphical glitch and shortcode not parsed.
atm (from some years now) is really unusable.

On 8 inch tablet, single topic page layout is consisted of 2 columns, this layout is same as BBPress page you see on PC’s bigger screen. BBPress’ 1 column layout you see on mobile phones should be applied on Tablets like iPads as well!
You see 1 column layout BBPress topic page on this Official www.ads-software.com forum pages already. Hope they officially change the BBPress topic page layout to 1 column soon and let us download new version of it.

I needed a tool to convert a phpBB forum to WordPress and this plugin did a great job. More than 1000 users, all forums and topics with answers were imported in a few minutes without a single error. It’s a cool plug-in for me.

Just use the miriad of forum software that’s still being maintained out there. This hasn’t been touched in 2 years. If automatic don’t bother updating it why would I bother installing it?
and don’t tell me the software is already perfect cos it barely works if the planets align.

I tried out several forums and bbPress was the only one that worked for me. I can’t remember what I was trying to do at the time, but maybe I was trying to delete users and not get error messages from the forum plugin. bbPress worked without problems.
I did have to do some work to make the forum look nicer in appearance. But after that bbPress works perfectly.

I AM DISPOINT WITH DOSEN`T WORK PLUGINS!!!

I haven’t installed this but I am a user of a forum using this plugin and it’s terrible! I don’t know what part are the rules set up by the admin and what are just bugs. I’ve complained to the admins without results so I post my issues here.
The main problems with the above is that every problem, every issue means the message I mean to post gets DELETED and there are no warnings! It is destroyed and never seen again!
I don’t like not being able to use external image links, but I can live with it. What I can’t live with is the capricious nature of the software and that my messages are so easily deleted. Since this forum has foregone simple forum submits and uses ajax instead, the browser itself can never save the message which on older forums meant you could backspace and save your message. This does not work here. If your post has an error or violation of some kind you are not sent back to the editor, THE POST IS DELETED !
Same thing if I edit a post, if I accidentially did something the forum software didn’t like it again DELETES THE POST! And you get no warnings, you just press the submit button and everything is gone.

After 2 years without any update, no programmer in the world can convince me that everything is great and in perfect order! Because now the plugin spits out some forum content at a URL that is supposed to generate a 404 error! what the …
I have uninstalled the plugin today and I can only hope that it has not left too much garbage data behind, as I have read in other comments.
If anyone knows of a better alternative, please let me know.

This plugin is not supported for last 2 year and it does not work at all with new WordPress (blank pages). It should be removed from the wordpress plugin list.

Why don’t you update the plugin?
Why aren’t you up to date like wpforo

Blank white page on latest WordPress version 6.3.

bbpress is very old fashioned and a bit cumbersome and buggy. The search does not work with the latest wordpress version, you always end up on an archive page with wrong display. The error is not caused by the theme or another plugin, have tried many things. With some themes only a blank page comes up.
Also the url structure is not really nice (/forums/forum/..). bbPress urgently needs an overhaul! I spent 2 days with bbPress, before I finally switched to another plugin, because it was not possible to get bbPress to run without errors. There are better free forums for wordpress that look much more modern (Asharos forum worked right away, without problems).

I really wanted to like this plugin, I really did. I mean, it’s by the guys that made WordPress. So, what could possibly go wrong? Well, let’s start with the layout. While I do appreciate simple and clean designs, it can get TOO simple. The forum page looks like a Typo3 layout from the nineties. Now to the more annoying part: There is no registration or lost password form on the login page. Seriously? So, I added both pages and activated the sidebar just for the bbpress widget! This gives me an acceptable registration page. But wait! If I fill in the wrong credentials (or simply nothing), I’ll get redirected to the WordPress login page. WHAT? I know that I can install a plugin for this feature. But I simple don’t want an additional plugin for such a basic thing.

Very primitive. No documentation. For example, there is a search box but no way to put a label on it. I tried to add a topic to a forum but there was no submit button. Basically, it has not been updated in a year and it shows.

I’m shocked how unusable this is. Configuration is not simple and not documented. Appearance is primitive at best, not even basic. But in the end it’s totally worthless as all the basic access functionality is missing or does not work. No registration page/ link on login page. No documentation on setting this up. blogs all point to manually making a registration page using shortcodes?? But the codes don’t work, so the plugin is just useless. From here I tried Asgaros and while simple, it actually works in full out of the box with easy configuration all in one place (not 3 like bbpress). Sure if you want a nice registration form you need another plugin, but that was already the case for WordPress anyway.

We wanted to try BBPress but we discovered quickly that it caused way too many problems with roles & permissions for the site. So we removed it. But it turns out that for at least 8 years bbPress has known the roles can’t be removed cleanly and they just shrug and say “not important.” So, I recommend you NOT INSTALL THIS PLUGIN. It will leave ugly traces behind itself like a nasty WordPress slug and you’ll waste hours googling it and trying to fix it to no avail. It’s old, it’s ugly, and it’s a mess.

If you’ve ever used other forums software, or especially if you’ve deployed other forums software, it becomes very clear after you install bbpress that this plugin is basic, and clunky. An awful lot of what would be considered standard functionality in forums software simply isn’t present, or if it is, is awkward and clunky to use.
Having said that, it is the best forums plugin I am aware of for WordPress, perhaps the only one, and it is FOSS, so hurrah for that, and it mostly does the job. There are also plugins available for it that extend it’s functionality and add features which almost put it on a par with other forums software, but even with those, not quite.

Helpful plugin, good functionality.

We’re using this to add a forum to our existing WordPress website and are very pleased with it. Installation was straightforward and out of the box the forum integrates nicely with our theme, making basic setup minimal.
To make the forum work and look exactly the way we wanted was also easy enough with some custom CSS and PHP code in combination with a couple of dedicated plugins.
One area we feel could be somewhat improved is the plugin’s documentation. There is good documentation available to cover the basics, but it often stopped at the point where we wanted to go a little further.
There’s also a very active BBPress support forum and when searching for ways to do things we often ended up there. The plugin has been around for a long time, and so we were pleased that most of our questions had already been asked and discussed in the forum. However, much of the information we found was over 10 years old and sometimes deprecated. At times it was difficult to figure out exactly how to achieve things. But with a little bit of persistence we got where we wanted to be and now have a working forum that integrates very nicely with the rest of our website.
So a big thank you to all the plugin authors and contributors.

OOB the forum looks very raw and absolutely DOES NOT follow the active theme. It also produced some artifacts that the dev refused to even look into.

Bonjour,
