I get a lot of Warning: Undefined array key “default_language” in C:\xxxx\wp-content\plugins\better-random-redirect\classes\BetterRandomRedirect.php on line 191. How do I fix it? Thx!
I’ve been using your plugin on my website, guinly.com, and it has been working perfectly until the latest update. However, after updating, I’ve encountered a 404 error on the destination link.
To troubleshoot, I deactivated all my plugins to check if there was a conflict, but unfortunately, the issue persists. I appreciate the work you do, and I’m eagerly awaiting an update that addresses this concern.
Is this plugin still being maintained? What would it take to get this updated to support WordPress 6.4?
Hey, this plugin did exactly what I wanted with no unnecessary bells or whistles attached, but after the recent updates to wordpress, I am noticing this plugin no longer appears to be redirecting users properly.
I was wondering if anyone else was having a similar problem or if something in wordpress has recently broken this plugin? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi,
I find your plugin really useful and I was using it for more than 1 month without any problems. Link: https://imperiumromanum.pl/en/random/ was redirecting to a random post from around 1500 available under post type “curiosities”.
However, since some time I see it is no longer working.
I tried:
1. Deactivating > Activating
2. Reinstallement
3. Made sure that ‘/en/random’ is excluded from caching by LiteSpeed Cache plugin.
Can you help me with understanding what is the problem about?
Best regards,
Jakub
Hallo, Never had i any trouble with the plugin. but recently after a big site reset its not working anymore. How can i delete the entire plugin and data? because everytime i try to reinstall.. it still has my saves backupped. i think a full reinstall will fix te problem
I’m in the process of preparing for a website migration from one host to another. This plugin works great on the live site, but not on the new host. I’m wondering if this could in any way be related to the fact that I haven’t yet switched the DNS over to point to the new host? I’m using an override in my local hosts file to prep and test the new site. I’ve turned off all caching, and triple-checked all my config options. They are exactly the same between the two sites. I’ve even tried uninstalling/reinstalling the plugin. It doesn’t seem like something that should be related to DNS but I have no idea what else it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does installing a caching plugin (w3 total cache) affect how this plugin works? How can I set up the caching plugin to prevent this?
Thank you!
Is it possible to have the plugin randomly cycle through all the post in a category before starting the cycle again. That way you wouldn’t see a post twice unless you’ve seen all the other posts in that category first.
Thank you.
I’m trying the plugin but it doesn’t create valid urls. I’ve deactivated all the other plugins to check for compatibility issues, but this does not solve the problem.
According to the documentation, when I put [random-url cat=”cat1″] it should output https://mydomain.com/random/?cat=cat1
But it doesn’t, it outputs /random/?cat=cat1. It doesn’t put my domain in front.
I can only get the full url by putting my domain in front manually like this: https://mydomain.com[random-url cat="cat1"]
But this doesn’t work in the wysiwyg editor when I want to create a clickable link:
When I enter https://mydomain.com[random-url cat="cat1"]
as the link target, this is transformed to https://mydomain.com/random/?cat=%26quot%3Bcat1%26quot%3B&posttype=post&r=0
This leads to a 404 page.
When I use the html editor and type <a href="https://mydomain.com[random-url cat="cat1"]">link

, the link becomes this: https://mydomain.com[random-url cat="
It’s cut off because the first quotation mark is seen as the end of the href.
How can I fix this? I’ve disabled all other plugins, tried on a fresh install, but the problem persists.
When I use [random-url] there are no problems, because there are no quotation marks I think. But I really need to be able to filter per category.
Hi,
The support forum looks to be deactivated. However, the plugin is not working with Polylang. It confuses the categories and select to a specific page in second language instead of random page inside specified category.
Thanks
I would like my homepage to present a random page from a category. I set up as my homepage a static page with permalink /index/. Setting up /index/ as the Main Randomiser URL does not work (it works with any other URL; I don’t know if this is the reason, but when I go to my homepage, the permalink /index/ does not show up).

I have been using Better Random Redirect just fine with a custom post type. I created a custom taxonomy for that post type to try and have only posts from one category delivered, but I can’t get that to work. It does not show as an option under “category” so I tried the URL with the category.
Hi,
Thanks for the great plugin.
There is an option to get a random post from a category using https://www.example.com/furniture/random/?cat=foo
Was wondering if there is a way to pull out a random product from a particular product category
(May be something line this – https://www.example.com/random/?posttype=product&product_cat=ottomans)
Thanks.
What began as a plugin for me and my clients to use has now grown in popularity. As a result, I am dealing with numerous requests for technical support–many of them due to theme and plugin conflicts that are outside my control.
I will continue to support the core functionality for the use-cases that pertain to me and my clients, and welcome pull requests on GitHub for bug fixes and other obvious improvements that have been well tested: https://github.com/cyberscribe/better-random-redirect

Hi,
First of all, thank you very much for your plugin !
I juste have a question :
I want to set a specific category for the random link, but using PAGES instead of post.
Is the a way to do that ?
When I set a specific “category” coupled with “page”, it does not take into account the category filtering.
Thank you ??
Nice plugin thank you but i have some problem.
Because my posts depends on multiple categories. For example, there are 100 posts in one category, only 2 articles belong to that category. others posts have more than one category.. then this plugin brings only 2 articles randomly.
The “Better Random Redirect” plugin opens the Dutch messages with the Cards category on the English side. These must of course be the English messages with the category “Cards”.
We have now adapted a link on the homepage to the old site…
Please can you help us to fix this?
Hi,
We have some posts set to “private” on our blog. Will these automatically be excluded or will the (not logged in) user face a 404 page in that case? If I understand correctly randomization works via category inclusion, not exclusion.
I’m a programmer but know only little php (but lot’s of other stuff ;-). How hard would it be to include a category filter?
Kind regards,
Alex

Hello,
Thanks for creating this plugin.
I am trying to remove the “Leave a Reply section” in the page that the randomised URL takes me to. I have successfully remove this function in all my other pages by changing the setting to not allow commenting at all but I don’t know why there is no effect on this particular link. Please help.

I’d like to ask you if there’s a way to exclude a specific category from the plugin.
Please let me know.
Thanks!
Hi! I’m trying to make the Better Random Redirect plugin work in a site with Qtranslate (two languages, two different URLs) and exclusively for a categorized group of pages (not posts).
Until now, I only was able to make it work to ALL categories of pages and in only ONE language.
Can you please help me to modify the code or suggest a workaround to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance.
I just started using this plugin and I do love it. It works perfect. I’ve great a trackable link going to my new Random link and I know the amount of traffic I get from that trackable link, but none of the traffic going to the Random link shows up on any other tracker. Google Analytics or any other website traffic counter shows any traffic that comes from my Random link. Do you know why that is or know how I can fix that?

Hello.
Do you think that a hotkey can be added in the plugin?
For example everytime someone presses R or a combination of two buttons (for example ALT+R, CTRL+R, etc..)?
Much like this plugin here:
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/randompost/
Please let me know.
Thanks!
EDIT: Also, the option to exclude certain categories would be great as well.
Hi,
I’m very pleased to have found this great plugin. But somehow I do not understand the functionality of the concept and of the shortcode. Especially the necessary URL.
On my (static) homepage I want to randomize only a post of a certain category e.g. “random-home”. In the settings I have the type “post”and the right category selected. As the URL I have given my homepage /home and write only the shortcode [random-url] on it. But it does not work. I get only one path displayed.
What am I doing wrong?
Am grateful for any hint or example.
Thanx!
Hello, I really like your plugin.
I use the link of the plugin that I implement in a “random” button. But many times it shows the same post, so is there anyway I can exclude the current post when someone pushes the random button?
Please let me know.
Thanks.
Awesome plugin and was pretty well exactly what I was looking for. The only thing it doesn’t do it only redirect to parents pages and excludes child pages from being choosen. Is there anyway to do this?
