After update BIT-SMTP to the latest version when I try to visit the admin page to check the settings I get this strange error (see below) and then the page doesn’t render correctly. I’m running the site on nginx, php 8.2 with WordPress 6.4.5. The “Test Configuration” and “Others” tabs appear to work and render correctly. However the “Configuration” tab just shows me the header and “Enable Mail” option set to “no”, which is strange because the settings in the database for the options are set correctly..
“SyntaxError: Unexpected token ‘<‘, “
There h”… is not valid JSON”
keep getting ‘mail send testing failed’ message. All settings are completely correct.
This is what WP Mail Logging says “SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. Failed to connect to server”

Hello,
I activated the debug field, but I do not know where to find the log to see the errors, can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Hello, it appears that the in the latest release 1.0.9 this is a small bug in the HookProvider.php. It seems the SMTPDebug is set to 1 (active). Not a big deal since I just modified the code and set it to 0; however, others might not know why debug code is appearing on form submissions etc.
$phpmailer->SMTPDebug = 1; <— should be 0
Might be better to put this option in the settings for the plugin.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your plugin.
It’s working well so far, but we’re having problems with spam.
we send emails via gmail. We have set our domain address as the default. Now the problem is that most emails end up in spam.
As soon as we use the original email address from gmail, the emails arrive.
MX record and SPF entries are set up.
how can we solve this problem ?
best regards
Daniel
