Hi there,
Are there any plans on updating this plugin so that it works with the newer versions of WordPress and with PHP 7.2?
PHP 7.2 error is:
Function create_function() is deprecated in /wp-content/plugins/bitly/bitly-widget.php on line 290
Best regards.
The current version of the plugin combined with WordPress 4.5.1 will prevent you from writing new posts and pages. When you go to make a new page, the page is a blank, empty page. Deactivating the plugin instantly fixes this.

I set this up to test on multisite and it seemed to work fine for all my sites. It shows its not tested with my version but should it work with multisite? Then I moved my site to a different domain and everything seemed to work fine but on some sites and only the contact page, when a shortlink is generated the link goes to the old test site and not the current new domain. It seems all the other pages work fine.
All my new recently added pages/sites seem to be fine, its just some of my older sites that just have the one page, contact, that still goes to the wrong domain.
Any idea how I can troubleshoot?
thanks!!

How do you change the color of the orange COPY button. Can it be changed through the CSS. If so, what is the element name?
I am using current and up-to-date versions of wordpress (4.1), bitly (1.1.0), and jetpack (3.3). The bitly share button and everything shows on each page but when I click the jetpack related post on each page it loads a 404 page. If I hover over the link it shows the correct bitly link but does not load the page.
For example:
on this page – https://jasonlamb.me/blog/att-gets-rid-of-contracts/
At the bottom you see the related post (this may vary when/if you load the page). One of the related post is titled “Internet Usage”.
-If you hover over the link it shows https://go.icwnow.com/1uM4j3b
-If you click the link it goes to https://jasonlamb.me/1uM4j3b?relatedposts_hit=1&relatedposts_origin=22&relatedposts_position=0
–notice the beginning “https://jasonlamb.me/1uM4j3b”…my custom bitly branding is go.icwnow.com so if you go to go.icwnwo.com/1uM4j3b it loads the page just fine.
-The page that is supposed to load is https://jasonlamb.me/blog/internet-usage/
…
In writing this and gathering the links for the post I realized something is happening. The related post is taking the bitly shortcut and suffixing it to the website and not my branding bitly doamin. if the bitly shortcut was abc123 it should suffix it to go.icwnow.com and not jasonlamb.me
I am not sure why it is suffixing “?relatedposts_hit=1&relatedposts_origin=22&relatedposts_position=0” to the end of all the link.
If my bit.ly account is set up with a custom branded short domain, will it automatically create that instead of a standard bit.ly?
I went through the plugin code.
NOWHERE does it hook into wp_get_shortlink()
. There are two possible filters: pre_get_shortlink
and get_shortlink
. Bitly doesn’t use either. Therefore… no other plugin that gets the shortlink can use the Bitly shortlink. Right?
Am I missing something?
I use wp_get_shortlink()
in my theme and it’s only returning the ?p=000
permalink (as per expected default WordPress behavior). Also, Jetpack is sending the ?p=000
link to Facebook and Twitter. Not the Bitly shortlink. So, it seems to me something critical is missing from this plugin. Namely, hooking into the default wordpress shortlink function.
The workaround I have to use then is checking for and retrieving the custom key/value that the Bitly plugin does produce.
From a support email to bit.ly:

Hi,
I found a XSS bug in this plugin.
Step to reproduce.
1:- Go to the Plugin settings.
2:- Add the payload to the OAuth Token box.
3:-Boom we will get the XSS.
Payload:- “>
As soon as you activate the plugin, but before you manage to enter your oauth key in the settings, the plugin will generate a fatal error on pages/posts as it doesn’t have the key.
If you have the front of your site set to display a page then this effectively brings the whole site down.
Whilst it is nice to see that something isn’t set up – I think in this case, if the key isn’t there then it should fail gracefully rather than throw an exception.
Hello,
i have a custom permalink structure like this https://domain.com/blog/ and bitly use the post permalink https://domain.me/com/%postname%/ instead of https://domain.me/com/my-first-post.
Maybe the plugin can’t solve the permalink.

Hi, I previously setup the bitly plugin with a custom short domain that no longer belongs to me. Because of this the old domain is still in the data, but cannot be used. Because bitly hijacks the permalink + post archive pages are linked with these bitly links, it’s impossible to navigate to these pages on my blog.
I would really like to be able to clear the previous data and reload with a new working short domain. How can I go about doing this?
Hi everyone,
I’m facing a lot of issues with this plugin.
1/ With Publicize : not sharing the good URL – sharing ?p=XXX instead of the bitmarks. Even if the sharing on the other platforms is fine, Twitter is sucking.
2/ All my SERPS display the bitmarks for the article and not the original URL
3/ Plugin is generating two different bitmark : one for the permalink and one for the ?p=XXX URL. This is useless and not pleasant for me.
Basically, if anyone has a fix for one or all these issues, I’ll be very grateful.
Cheers,

Hi Bitly,
I noticed that I have 2 canonical URL’s
One from thesis theme which is the full URL of the page and the other one is the bitly shortlink.
As far I know having multiple url will confuse the bot; also the shortlink as a canonical which is just sending bot to the same page in a loop.
Let me know is this going to be a major issue in terms of SEO and how to fix it.
# I am using the latest version of the plugin and wordpress
# Using a custom domain name for URL shortener
# Using thesis theme 1.X.X and Yoast SEO plugin

Jetpack worked fine with the wp.me shortened links on twitter, but not with bitly. When I publish a post and Jetpack sends it to social media sites all work fine except twitter.
Twitter shows the unshortened wordpress url with the post number. If I add the bitly link in the Jetpack area, then two links are sent to twitter.
All other social media get the bilty link just fine.
Please help.
Thanks,
Mark
sorry bit i remove it. it conflict with the regular and official g plus url – twitter and pinterest.

Now Jetpack shares the unshortened URL on Twitter, and my custom short on Facebook..

Specifically, I am using the plugin yet another related posts plugin and the links it generates are bitly links which I don’t want. Is there a way to only print bitly links where I want them (in my case, a twitter button) and use the permalink in the others?
Thanks,

We installed the plugin on https://www.denovati.com. However, upon installation all blog posts, either in draft preview or published status started to return a 404 error. We turned off the custom permalinks plugin but that did not correct the problem. Are you aware of an issue that could cause the posts not to display? Pages do not appear to have been effected. The plugin is still installed but disabled.
