The attachment is an essential function for a social application，is there any roadmap to merge it into bp core?

Hi, i’m having problems with bp attachments.
i post an image or a video but it doesn’t load and therefore it’s not possible to see it in the activities…. or rather… the activity is visible but without the video or image.
i tried with a different theme, turning off the plugins but nothing.
Any suggestions?

I installed and activated this plugin and have a few different questions about it.

1. After activation, in the settings, I got this error:

“The private root directory is missing. Please make sure the 

/home/u299666156/domains/amazingadventures.travel/buddypress-private exists and is writeable for the server’s user.”

I am not sure what this is. I tested the plugin, it works fine on the frontend and I can upload files.

2. However, I cannot delete uploaded files. Not sure if this is related to the error above.

3. Is there a way to restrict the upload quota? Currently it is 4.9MB for some reason and I don’t see a place to change this. I would also like to restrict the maximum storage space for each user role.

4. I also cannot see the files uploaded by a user as a logged out user (or even as a logged in admin) even though I’ve set it to public and the files are uploaded to the public folder.

I have WordPress 6.6.1 and BP Attachments 1.2.0.

About the subject:

As long I can see the attachment functionality is only triggered in the Buddypress Nouveau theme. In Legacy I can’t see any change in the Activity submission form.

Is it correct or am I missing something?

In case it is so, is there a way to activate it for Legacy theme?

Uploaded a video recently and saw the media player window has an option to download is it possible to disable downloads on any media?

Installed plugins are not compatible with the last two major versions of WordPress.

it would be great if video uploads from BP attachments could upload to Jetpack videopress server for storage

Is it possible to restrict access to the community media pages to members only? I tried using the members only option in BP options but that doesn’t seem to be working.

Hello, I downloaded and tried the BP Attachments plugin. After uploading an image I am able to view the files in the community library. This part works fine: On the media details page I am able to view the preview of the image. But when I try to click on “Open media page” or “Download media” it gives me a 404 page not found. The same things happens for files that are uploaded to the Private folders; i am unable to download the file. Can you help me figure out what is going on here?

When I try to post media in the activity, it displays an empty error message. In debug mode, it shows this error message.

Thank you for this plugin. I just discovered issue that when i try to upload any attachment while replying to any message it doesn’t work and doesn’t submit uploaded attachment with that reply only text goes through, on private message area, any idea why?

Though attaching media works fine from compose message page. Can you please let me know what is wrong with it?

Since the BuddyPress 12.0 upgrade, the users on my website need to insert minimum twice a file in their group.

The path of the attachment seems to be wrong: mon-site/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Exemple-fiche-technique-1.pdf when it should be mon-site/wp-content/uploads/bp-attachments/7035/Exemple-fiche-technique.pdf

With any form of object caching this plugin generates fatal errors on the single member attachment page, the fix is a bit beyond me but here is the main error generated:

PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Attempt to assign property “single_item_name” on null in /****/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-members/classes/class-bp-members-component.php:953

It would be really nice to get this fixed, I have noticed this with both redis and sqllite caching

bp_attachments_get_medium_visibility( ) calls bp_attachments_get_private_root_dir() which can return a wp_error, that error when fed into the check on line 107 of bp-attachments-functions.php generates a fatal error.

I updated the BP beta yesterday to the latest (beta 2) and while I didn’t notice it immediately, I think there is now a conflict with this plugin that is causing my standard WP pages (except the home page) to not be found; whether this is a conflict with my theme or just between BP and the plugin I can’t tell, but deactivating the attachments plugin solves the issue, and reactivating brings it back. Prior to this deactivating other plugins made no difference, and neither did flushing permalinks. One other thing to note that may be relevant is that on the WP pages that aren’t found, in the browser tab it says ‘Community Media’, so it seems as though there is some clue there to what is going on. With regard to my theme (Blocksy), after previously reporting issues connected to the beta BP, they have asked that I wait until the final version is released to report any more, so I am a bit stuck – maybe you might consider liaising directly with them if you think it is a theme rather than plugin issue? In the meantime I will try testing rtMedia again, as that is what is in use on my live site but using the default BP theme rather than Nouveau. However I have had issues with every ‘media’ plugin I have tried, which suggests that Blocksy might be the issue, but the theme is so good and I am so familiar with it I would like to resolve the issues if possible. I think there might be some fundamental BP/Blocksy issue connected to templates that might be causing these issues, but I don’t have the knowledge or expertise to further investigate. I hope some progress can be made.

I don’t know if this is something that is already slated to be changed, but if not may I politely suggest that more options for this, and other BP plugins, are provided so that the colours and other styles can automatically match those of whichever theme is in use, or be adjusted in the plugin settings? I have just had to examine the output and then write more than 40 lines of css just for this plugin so everything matches my existing styles. The same applies for Buddypress itself and it does get tiresome.

If I delete a post, for example, with a picture that I inserted via bp attachment and look at myweb.com/community-media/, I see all of them. how does it work, that file is not deleted automatically?

I am testing this out with the beta of the new BP 12, but I am wondering if it is working correctly with it yet? Firstly, using a Blocksy child theme, up to date WP and the Nouveau template, and there is an issue with the icon not showing for the Attach Media button in Activity; the tooltip shows which is how I know what is meant to be there, but there is no icon (I tried with Blocksy main theme but it was the same); secondly, how does one add a previously uploaded attachment (in either Public or Private folder) to an activity post? Is there maybe another button that I am not seeing? Thirdly, are there any plans to enable users to be able to drag and drop media onto the post text area (like rtMedia and I believe MediaPress does) and for it then to be uploaded?

When I upload media and write some text in the post, the media is displayed at the bottom. How to make it so that it is on top before the text?

Hi, First of all I have to thank you for this plugin. It solves media upload in a brilliant and simple way, keep it simple that’s my motto.

It is good that only one original image is stored on FTP. But I would need it to automatically resize when someone uploads an image larger than 1000 px, so I would like the image to be automatically cropped and saved. Is there any php snippet for this?

My second question is how to set the maximum file size of videos, music and images. Let’s say I allow a maximum of 20MB file upload per post each time. How to do it? I couldn’t find it in the plugin settings.

Tried selecting and uploading multiple images to a group activity update but only a simple image was allowed at a time and each subsequent image replaced the previous is this how the plug-in is supposed to work?

Hi there, apparently BuddyPress users are not able to delete their uploaded profile image, because there are no delete option with the plugin installed.
