It seems like this plugin is no longer maintained – last update was 4 years ago. Seems to work okay for me except for on a user’s Buddypress profile page. It messes up the Buddypress styles, and the course tab doesn’t work. There are a bunch of links to courses, but there are two of every single one, and it’s just an ugly list. I’d love for it to just use the Learndash profile shortcode [ld_profile] as that looks much better, but I don’t know where to look to edit this in the plugin file. If anyone knows, I’d appreciate it!
Otherwise, 3 stars because yes it works. There are groups for each course, and I have bbpress forums attached to each. But the profile page issues and lack of updated support drop my rating down to 3 stars.

I hope people help me spread the word, I’m being SCAM by this company and i have all the proof, you can write me if you need to. This people never answer support, part of their refund policy says 21 days and some 14, so after waiting 15 days for a support reply i ask for my 21 days money-back warranty. And they say “sorry for no reply to you for 15 days, but we have a strict refund policy”.
The plugin also offer features who depend on third-party plugins who broke my site, their knowledge base refer to those plugins and even do, they don’t refund. This is a SCAM and everyone should know this.

It’s a shame they have only looked at this from one angle… from users being on Learndash first and wanting to auto create a group / update one Buddypress group.
I really wish this worked the other way – I have buddypress users, in multiple groups and I want to sync buddypress group membership with Learndash groups.

When I add a new lesson, it has stopped updating the activity stream on both the group activity stream and the main activity stream. When I add a new topic and update the course, it just continues to load and states the following:
BuddyPress for Learndash enrolling users to the course buddypress groups. This can take a while if you have many students(members). Do not navigate away from this page until this is done.
The above never completes and just has a loading icon that never ends.

Unfortunately, the integration of the BuddyPress groups with the LearnDash courses is very limited.
This plugin is not able to enroll course group members to the Closed type Course. Those. course group members do not have access to course materials.
It would be better if you sync the Lerndash groups with BuddyPress groups. Then all the great features of LearnDash groups would join the functional of the BuddyPress groups and it would be cool. But now neither LearnDash groups nor BuddyPress groups give the desired result.

If you disable groups component of BuddyPress then this plugin will fatal error and take out the entire site. This error was reported over six months ago but has not been addressed.
Typical of this developer, they incapable of addressing a simple issue that was reported over 6 months ago.
Avoid this developer at all costs.

The idea is great, but unfortunately the plugin is completely useless in its current version.
It destroys the theme (btw: Buddyboss Social Learner, the author it’s own theme) and even after deleting the plugin, groups and courses remain connected to each other (FIX: re-insatll plugin and disconnect group from course, then delete the plugin again). Several PHP errors included…

It does not synchronize created groups or existing groups. It serves only for the activity of the users

The plugin does not make any useful and it brokes the theme. The one-star grading is based on other experiences what are based on dealing with the BuddyBoss -services.
We purchased BuddyBoss products with high expectations. The intention was to use their products in our internal training and education. We saw their demos and hands-on Youtube videos where the installation procedure is automatic and works like a clock.
First problems were in the installation process. It did not completely and despite of given promises, the installation had to finish by our selves. Well, it was ok for then – things happen, that was our impression. The next problems were browser related problems – there were really poor support between different browsers, like Chrome, Firefox and Edge.
Then there were continuous problems with functionalities. Some features just stopped working without any reason. We didn’t receive any reasonable answers for this problems. At first they wanted the admin account to the site, and then the request was admin password to entire server where we run the site.
In this point we got enough for this product and service, especially when we inspected theme check. The theme what BuddyBoss was selling was technically crap according to theme check test. We tested default theme what BuddyBoss is selling their website and the theme was already broken from the beginning. There were nothing else installed than themecheck and BuddyBoss products on WordPress.
We lost huge amount of time and money doing business with BuddyBoss.
One thing we learned:
If a software product or service is not available on common market places and the product is available on vendor’s site, do not buy it. Buy products only from common market places. This kind of crap what BuddyBoss sells, can not be available on market places like Envato for example.

I’ve had this plugin for around a year. It works well for the intended purpose of forming a “glue” between Learndash and Buddypress. It does have some limitations:
– It “takes over” any BuddyPress group once you’ve associated it with a Learndash Course, no longer allowing the BP group to be customized (e.g. privacy settings, cover photo, etc)
– It forces you to have one and only one “admin” for the BP Group, which is automatically set to the course instructor. If you try to set permissions for someone else to also have privileges, it just resets them to a standard user. This makes the ability to have multiple people running/moderating a group almost impossible.
– It just isn’t very flexible, as the above examples illustrate.
For those reasons I’d give it 3.5 stars. But the real reason for the two stars is support.
I’ve had many times going round and round with Buddyboss support when things didn’t work right. Last year, there was a period of time where my entire web server would get frozen up by the plugin whenever an administrative change was made to the course/site. It took over 45 days of going back and forth with Buddyboss support to convince them it was a BUG. They finally fixed it, after LOTS of wasted time on my team’s part.
Worse still, I recently purchased another plugin of theirs. It is not working as advertised (it is supposed to send email through Sendgrid, and it won’t even connect). After going back and forth with the support rep, this is the message I got today:
“We are not able to debug without having sendgrid access, it will suggest to check with sendgrid support once.”
This is AFTER I gave them full admin access to my site to figure out what’s going wrong. Now they’re pointing the blame at Sendgrid, and asking me to get Sendgrid to debug their plugin for them. *ironic voice* Sendgrid support will I’m sure be receptive to me asking for support on a plugin they didn’t develop. *ironic voice off*
Maybe they’ll eventually figure out why their plugin isn’t working, or maybe I’ll have to get a refund – but either way, it’s a big waste of time going back and forth with a developer who doesn’t quite have their act together, and wants the customer (and other vendors) to figure out THEIR bugs.
So they’re down to two stars for wasting so much of mine and my team’s time.

The settings page only shows three options unlike the screenshots displayed in plugin description.
They should have mentioned it correctly.
Buddypress Learndash
General Settings
Visibility Display Profile > Course content publicly
User Roles Convert subscribers to user role Student
Convert group leaders to user role Group Leader

I love that this plugin exists. Thanks Buddyboss for making it.
But the main downside for me is that it automatically turns any group you associate a course with to private, with no options to change it back to public, which severely this plugins usability for me.
Also had some technical issues with it (seems to be a recurring theme for Buddyboss & me).

Hi BuddyBoss team,
(scroll down for updated review)
The plugin has great potential but it needs to be better integrated with LearnDash. For the next update I would recommend to:
1. Include ‘Course Excerpt’ from LearnDash as ‘Group Info’ if no Group Info has previously been entered.
2. Include ‘Course By’ from LearnDash along with ‘Group Admins (or Group Leaders?)’.
3. Include ‘Course Progress’ from LearnDash as optional info in Group.
As of version 1.0.5 the following is no longer supported:
* Course Lessons become visible at the group
— Update 3/4/2016 —
Thanks for the recent update! It works well along with Boss for LearnDash 1.0.6 (https://www.buddyboss.com/product/social-learner-learndash/)
There is only One thing I would change – and that is to still have the link to ‘Course’ (i.e. Course Home) from the BuddyPress Group Tab Menu. The normal ‘Home’ (i.e. Group Activity) button should still be in the BuddyPress Group Tab Menu.
As it is now I would give it 4 out of 5 stars! ??
Best regards,
Michael
