I’m a huge fan of and have a developer license for ACF Pro.
That said, I needed a solution that I could include with free plugins that offered some of the cool features of Pro like repeating fields (aka Complex fields) and easy options pages.
There are a lot of frameworks out there, but I chose this one because it is one of the few that supports repeater/complex field groups well and is easily extensible. Good stuff!
FYI, if you want to pull it into the vendor folder via Composer, this worked for me:

I think this plugin is clearly the best and powerfull custom fields plugin.
Way much better than ACF.
Not so easy to use the first time (you need php), but once you get it, it’s pure happiness, much possibilities.
I’m gonna use this plugin for my future projects, for sure.

Been playing with CF for a couple of days now. I’m pretty much a novice when it comes to coding in PHP, still even for me the code syntax for creating fields is concise and very easy to work with. The nested complex fields are simply awesome. In functionality very similar to the Flexible Content field in Advanced Custom Fields. Yet all code based, so very simple to reuse certain code parts elsewhere.
It’s a relatively new plugin, so naturally the documentation is still a bit of a work in progress. However the developer makes up for that delivering terrific support.
This plugin is a true gem and I highly recommend it. Can’t wait to see where the developer takes it with future updates!

In my humble opinion (and from my experience with it), this is the best custom fields plugin around here. It is full of useful features, supports all possible WordPress content and data types and has fields for every possible use case. It is a must-have for every plugin and theme developer.
