What can I say. I praise the day that I decided to replace this sloppy piece of crap.
As soon as I had uninstalled it, all other mystery problems we were having with the site were gone.
Even if it had worked sans problems, it misses obvious functionality e.g. tiered pricing. The author has promised this ‘feature’ forever. But the last functional update was in the stone age.
Oh, did I mention that the support is non-existent?
Don’t even consider it. You’d regret it.

Neither the customers nor my client nor myself as site administrator receive notifications when a purchase is made. I reached out to support and they asked for my admin info saying they’d be happy to help. Then they said they wouldn’t help because I don’t have a “premium” and “paid” version. There’s no way I’m going to pay for something that doesn’t work. Save yourself the time and headache and don’t use this plugin.

I used this some years ago for a small cart and it was great.
Now I tried it on another site and had to uninstall it because of a lack of documentation.
Imagine it left tons of tables in the database.
Not happy.

Having read the comments below I initially went elsewhere and tried other options without success and a lot of frustration.
I have now set up Cart66-Lite and I am very pleased with the outcome.
This has ticked all of the boxes for me and works straight our of the box in a Genesis theme.

I feel that my review represents the majority of the online audience being that I’m not ignorant to using WordPress
Completely wrong
– take the time to understand how it work*
– configure correctly*
– enjoy Cart 66 will do all for you
(except answering some stupid “ego claiming” threat like before)

With all bells and whistles, I decided not to trust all negative reviews and installed the plugin… I simply does not work. I could not even add one product. No error message, just nothing happens.
Good-bye!

Unlike other eCommerce plugins, which has a lot of community development such as: hacks, plugins, add-ons, modules; cart66 has none. The reason being they do not fulfill any feature requests by the community.
They have an update once every 4 months or so, and it just says:
*Fixed
*Fixed
*Fixed
Not to mention its mostly to do with something trivial like a “,” or “.” or some special character, or again… “live rates” or whatever that nobody even uses.
You rarely see any
*New
*New
*New
See for yourself: https://cart66.com/latest-cart66/
And keep in mind this is the PRO version.
The Lite version hasn’t got any “*New” for over a year probably.
You will end up paying programmers for the very basic add-on features you want.

I’m a new wordpress user (1 week now), and less than 24 hours into the cart66 pro plugin. I skipped the lite version. The cart66 plugin is exactly what I was looking for and the code is very well organized. I would have given it a 5/5 but I found that the UPS shipping module support only pulls published rates, not the negotiated rates you get when you have a formal shipping agreement with UPS. That required several hours of my time to figure out and upgrade the php code to work. As is evident with the 1 ratings before me, those users with no programming support would be out of luck. Cart66 Lite and Pro DO NOT support UPS negotiated rates. This means that you could lose customers if they are not happy with the higher shipping rates they’ll be asked to pay. I’m very happy with the cart66 plugin otherwise and hope it is smooth sailing from here because I want to use it on another site tomorrow.

I purchased this cart over 2 years ago and after about a years use cancelled it. There is no customer history or customer record. Every time the customer checks out they have to re-enter their information, every time. It is terrible and the developers have totally ignored this request by many many users. I dumped this useless cart, went to Zencart and never looked back. Zencart will work for you whether you are big or small. Do not waste your money or time with this cart. You will end up wondering why you made such a bad choice.

I would not recommend this plugin to anyone. I usually don’t say bad things about other people’s developments; but I’m sorry! I had to rate this at a one because the entire set up is very, very confusing. I feel that my review represents the majority of the online audience being that I’m not ignorant to using WordPress, but I’m not an expert in coding either. I have enough experience to tweak a theme and dig into the CSS to make it work for me but not enough knowledge to dig in the coding. So my review is this….
Compared to other ecommerce plugins, this whole process is tedious and very frustrating. I understand how people want to “customize” their pages and control the look and feel of the layout, but for novices or for someone who wants a easy set up, its not worth the time nor the effort. This is definitely a “different” plugin from others similar, but in my opinion, this is downfall for the plugin.
When I first uploaded the plugin, everything seemed smooth sailing, but it took me almost an hour to figure out why the products were not on the page and that I needed to use shortcodes. I still have not figured out how to add a image. I did Google the issue and found that someone had the same issue, but after reading their (and others) response, I still didn’t understand what in the world they were talking about. Being that this is the “free” version, I knew if I posted to the support forum, it would be addresses on their time – and I needed an answer, like now. Some things you can post and wait for an answer, but not knowing how to post images is not something you can move on from.
What I found even more frustration is the documentation. After being confused and then downloading a 20 something page documentation, I was done. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the documentation more than I don’t; but none of the other carts I’ve used had a documentation over a few pages. This made it even more frustrating because now you want to me read 25 pages after I’m already confused about everything – just so that I can become more confused; and thats just what happened. After reading several pages of the documentation, I had a splitting headache. I had wasted hours trying to make this plugin work and was still on the same thing. I could not figure out anything. The only thing that I was able to do was add a product.
Lastly, I kept getting a very irritating pop up box mentioning something about a Data Tables warning. Again, I google’d the issue and understood nothing anyone was saying about it. So my conclusion is this:
Most of the people that are rating the plugin high have an expert level knowledge of coding and/or are coders themselves. I know this is true because I’ve visited some of their pages – their experts and/or developers themselves. So of course working with this would be a piece of cake to them. I should have paid more attention to the stars and ratings because it seems like more people are dissatisfied with the plugin versus those that say it was “easy”.
I really wish I never used this plugin because now I have to start all over with Woocommerce.

Eh – it’s okay. I’ve found a few bugs and issues. Cart 66 restricts all contact with their support section unless you have a paid version.

We were new to WordPress eCommerce last year and found Cart66 to work just like how a shopping cart plugin should work, at least one written for the easy-to-use CMS that is WordPress. Our previous experience was with Zen cart and Cart66 was a very straightforward experience by comparison.
Of course the two serve quite different markets, different sensibilities and business needs, but the typical small and even mid-sized business will likely find Cart66 robust enough. We’re especially stoked by the fact that unlike most WordPress shopping carts, this one doesn’t feel like it’s forcing users to adopt some kind of “claustrophobic” system to get things done: for instance, something as simple as specifying that your buy-now button should go here instead of there!

You can easily migrate to Cart66Pro which isn’t loaded up with a “buy by the part” mentality. If the developer had a community supported forum, it would get 5 stars from me. I have no vested interest in the product other than my sanity when developing for clients. If a client is on a tight budget and uses PayPal Standard, this is easy, fast and free.
Be sure to download the PDF, it addresses darn near everything you could run into.
The nice upside is that you can configure variations and shipping pretty easy. This is especially the case when you have items with multiple variations and prices, such as three sizes and colors of one item. I’d rather not write some crazy short code per item. Instead with Cart66Lite I enter the products into the back end, create my page of products and then use the icon near the post/page “insert image” to insert the item I want.
In particular shipping options are pretty robust if you don’t want to mess with live shipping. Default by the piece with bundle for additional items is again, very easy.
I am not an affiliate, don’t have any financial interest, or know the developer. I do have a sense of sanity when it comes to my time.

More trouble than it’s worth. No documentation for free version. Who knows if the paid version is worth the price?

This plugin is one of the most simplest but most effective ecommerce plugin for wordpress.
It has all you need there, without any extra complex crap.
