Hello, does it replace default theme > widgets, right?

1. unzip file?
2. Filezilla it to wp Plugins directory and find it among plugins and activate?
I am also having a problem with the Classic Widgets plugin.
My Recent comments widget does not update now that the Classic Widgets plugin has been installed. I am using the 2016 theme and have the correct php version. Anything else I should check?
The Recent Comments widget is a standard one found on the Appearance–>Widgets page
Thank you!

I am only putting this here, from 5.8 on up to 6.6 I believe which was released on July 16 which was when my own self hosted WordPress was updated the classic widget plug in worked great. I had the Social Icons showing up on my page, and now they no longer show up. At least the icons. I can hover over where the links are, but there is no Icon for Facebook, Twitter, Mastodon. Etc. I don’t know if there will be a fix, but wanted to let others know if your using WordPress 6.6 and have classic widgets installed, it’s broken now.
Hi,
Nice plugin, thank you for it’s use.
Here’s the problem …
I have noticed that the widgets created have now become ‘inactive’?
I could drag and drop each back to the the created widget folders but these are many and would take a lot of time in doing so.
Is there a way to restore them back to their respective widget folders automatically?
I have restored the site back up several times to figure out what has happened but, when doing so, the widgets become inactive?
Might be an idea to add a restore function so whenever this happens, the admin can select any/all inactive widgets and retore them?
Thank you
Hello ,
I recently updated to the latest version of WP. Since then, there have been problems when creating Text widgets (I use the Classic Widget plug-in). Previously, when selecting the “Teaser Widget”, a field for title, subline, url and image selection appeared within the input mask. This has now disappeared.
Instead, the following is displayed.
As shortcode:
[do_widget “Teaser Widget”]
or maybe with id [do_widget id=carbon_fields_teaser_widget-1043] - incorrect unless Classic Widgets is active
As shortcode:
[do_widget “Teaser Widget”]
Save the widget first!
I can't do much with this, as I would like to have my old input mask back.
I would be grateful for any tips on how to restore the old state. I will also contact the provider of my theme (Newspaper) in case the problem lies there.
Thanks, Frank

On a site running Classic Widgets, after updating to WP 6.5 the Widgets page disappears from the Appearance menu. I can still access the Classic Widgets through the Customize area, but it’s much harder to use as it only shows widget areas for the visible page and the Inactive Widgets section is gone entirely.
Any idea how to get the classic widget page back?
Hello,
I just upgraded wordpress from an older version. And I noticed some of my footer widgets disappeared.
I went into the widget section in the dashboard and found the block editor.
So I searched, and installed your plugin, thinking it would give me back not only the widget dashboard look, but also the missing widgets.
But while I got back the look, the footer widgets are still not there.

Could you please let me know where can I ask this question. If it is fine to ask it here, what plugin or code you use for this goal in www.ads-software.com

When I view my backend in File Manager it says the recent date is 2022 for files changed even though it is using 0.3V.
But in WordPress it says this plugin was updated 4 weeks ago.
So I”m confused as to why my directory in File Manager for this plugin is all dated 2022.
Thanks
Kristin
This is basically just guesswork on my part, but the latest update to WordPress seems to have broken Classic Widgets but also Classic Editor and is causing issues in Elementor (probably because the Text Editor widget still uses the classic editor).
So what happened was I made some changes to a HTML widget in the footer of the link attached, but after I hit save the loading icon just kept rotating for a long time and nothing got saved, tried it 3 times.
Then I disabled the Classic Widgets plugin and used the new Guttenberg one and it saved the same changes instantly.
I only mention the following because it seems related, otherwise it would be off topic.
A similar issue cropped up in pages/posts edited with the Classic Editor plugin, however this still saves changes, unless you have some styling (like different font, font-size, underline, etc… anything using the span style code) or if you center text, other code like images, links don’t cause issues.
If any of the above mentioned code exists in your content then when you save/publish you are sent to a Not Found page instantly and all your work is lost.
A similar thing happens with the Text Editor widget in Elementor, there having that code in your content results in a Server Error (404 Error) when trying to save changes.
I haven’t tried disabling all other plugins yet so I didn’t report the issue to Elementor, Classic Editor or WordPress yet, but the non-widget issues occurred on at least 4 websites already.

Hi there,
For a webshop I’m using the Elementor Hello theme and installed the Classic Widgets plugin to create a functioning product archive page. However, the plugin doesn’t show up in the appearance panel while installed. What can I do to fix this?

Hi, it used to be a random issue where my front-end post would lose double spacing for paragraphs. Now, any time I visit a post or page on the backend the double spacing disappears and I have to go through it all and reapply the double spacing. How can I stop your plugin from doing this?
Also, the menu bar for your plugin has stopped at the top of the block, meaning if I’ve 1,300 words into writing in your block, I have to scroll to the top each time I need to do something, like add a hyperlink, then scroll all the way down to add the link to the hyperlink, and if I then want to pick a custom colour for the new hyperlink, I have to scroll back to the top of the block to do so. It’s making everything much harder to do and wasting a lot of extra time doing it. How can I get the menu bar for you block to travel down with me when I scroll and use your block?

hello dear rohit hello dear Brian,
classic -widgets - it is a plugin that i came across today
background: i i run a site with wp-job-manager and the jobify-theme: see astoundify.dot com /products/jobify/
the quetion is: can i add classic widget - to the page - (and to the jobify-theme) to use it - to add data to the wigets
i want to add in fact such a area "Companies we have helped" i think i can use this for the described purpose
btw: whatabout doing this with a ninia or gravitiy-form - would this be a apropiate way of doing such things. i have heard alot of grafity and ninia forums - would these two forms could help here. besides this perhaps are there any experience with this combination – in other words – does Ninja-form run in the jobify-theme!?
i run a site with wp-job-manager and the jobify -theme
astoundify. dot com /products/jobify/
look forward to hear - and now i found out that there is classic widget see below: In my opinion, the new widget interface looks quite bad. Alternatively: I would install classic widgets and then follow the steps (see below).
i go to Appearance > Widgets
then i find the widget "sponsors" / "companies we have helped"
And then either i add the blocks one by one or copy an existing one and change its values.
but the question is : does the usage of the classic-widget infringe or destroy the jobify-theme!? Is there a comatibility - and does Classic-widget is interoperable with the Jobify-theme? That is the question
here the classic-widget: www.ads-software.com/plugins/classic-widgets/
Description:
Classic Widgets is an official plugin maintained by the WordPress team that restores the previous (“classic”) WordPress widgets settings screens. It will be supported and maintained to 2024, or as long as is necessary.
Once activated and when using a classic (non-block) theme, this plugin restores the previous widgets settings screens and disables the block editor from managing widgets. There is no other configuration, the classic widgets settings screens are enabled or disabled by either enabling or disabling this plugin.

I have lost the page editing tools at the top of pages when I am editing. How do I get them back?
Hello!
I created here a support thread in the all-purpose “Fixing wordpress” forum, and I was told that might very well be specifically related to the “classic-widgets” plugin.
So, I’m making that report here too.
I’m in the process of testing the migration of my hosting from php 7.4 to 8.1, as 7.4 isn’t maintained anymore, however I stumbled upon an issue I can’t quite figure out.
The environment:
Debian Buster. My panel (virtualmin) allows to choose which is the default PHP execution mode, but also to make exceptions (anything hosted in a directory of choice can run with a different version). PHP versions 7.4.33 (default) and 8.1.13 (testing).
I observed the bug I come to report in a brand new wordpress, installed on an empty directory with a freshly downloaded wordpress zip archive, using a brand new freshly created database. Only 1 plugin was added, Classic Widgets (to avoid the subjectively cumbersome block editing from the widgets management.)
I also observed it into the clone of an existing blog (cloned both files and database, wp-settings edited to change the site’s home url) that is still running fine in php 7.4 today, but in which there is the bug when ran in php 8.1.
The bug:
Saving the text contents of widgets only works when this is basic html content. (Think p, center.)
Anything more complex, a script, a form, or php, it won’t be saved. I click the “Save” button, a spinning wheel icon starts rotating left of the Save button… and nothing more happens. if I come back five actual minutes later to check, the button is still spinning, if I refresh the page, the change hasn’t been saved.
A screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/y3cWLmB
An example of the code that won’t be saved into a widget area, this is, plainly, a search form, no more, no less:

I tried with the “Classic widgets” plugin disabled , went to create a “Code” widget, pasted inside the code I quoted above, and it gave “There was an error. The response is not a valid JSON response.”. No idea if that’s the same issue or not, though.
I checked the website’s apache error log, without a risk of false positives as it was a test ground: nothing is recorded, at all, when I click the “Save” button and nothing happens.
… And at this point, I’m at my wit’s end.
TL;DR: code will be saved in php7.4, won’t be saved anymore in php 8.1, in otherwise identical setups.
Please, would anyone know what may be causing it, or how I may further debug it to find what may be causing it?
All help and suggestions will be more than welcome, thank you!
