I love CMB2. I love hooking into functions and extending addons so fields update each other intelligently, while locking out non-admins to sections.
Blocks are great, don’t get me wrong, and the extensions to make the, more hookable and meta-integrated is nice, but CMB2 gives you full and complete control, with API documented and dozens of add on plugins out there.
Using FacetWP? We have an add on!
Need to attach posts? We have an add on?
Want to use Shadow Taxonomies to connect posts instead of attaching them and somehow manage to do so dynamically and speedily?
Hey buddy. They’ve got you.
The power is yours to command.
Seeing even a version-matching-tested-up-to update makes me worry far less that this plugin will fall by the wayside.

I’ve been using CMB2 for about 5-6 years or so now (since before it was CMB2). I use this on every site I develop! I’m always surprised by their support. I usually learn something new and their staff is always helpful and willing to explain. Plus, they’re consistently updating their documentation (wiki) and third party extensions and snippets. This is, hands down, one of my most favorite WordPress extensions! I highly recommend it.

This is a fantastic product and comes with support that is unprecedented in this day and age. Highly customize-able and excellent for using for a quick implementation of small
amounts of data. My complements to the developers.
One major point to consider: Do not use if you have a LARGE amount of data that you need to display, admin or front end. OR, if you desire to come straight from your own database. The plugin uses the WordPress tables for each and every record set, thus slowing down the overall performance of the site. While you can go around this issue with a override callback feature, the callback is called every single time for every field within the record. This becomes more obvious with repeatable records… thus loading large amount of records can be really slow.
The plugin has the capability of uploading images..with another hickup– it uses the WordPress media library to implement the feature. Fantastic if you have a quick and dirty need or are using this on the backend to a limited degree. The problem comes when you are asking users to upload their photos for their account…and they happen to have the same file name. As we all know, WordPress does not do similar file names well..ignoring the secondary upload. Thus on the display, who ever uploaded first, is the photo/image that display for all the accounts.
The plugin is highly javascript/jquery based, which has it’s pros and cons, since it will be limited by the amount of memory on the user’s system and specifically within the browser.
That said, I found this plugin to be very helpful in my learning process. After which, I have written my own solution, that is more PHP centric and less dependent on the browser memory capacity. But I could not have known what do to, until I used this product to learn the process of what worked and what does not.
I loved using the product and at the time I started, the support was super in my exploration and implementation of data display for user’s account.
Grateful for the team and would recommend the plugin, given the consideration of your own site needs.

What can I say about cmb2? A lot of things, even if I’m playing with it for only 3 days (30+ hours).
First of all, the integration in custom plugin : really easy. This is only 4 lines to put in a file, and _yourprefix to edit, and you are ready to go.
Second part : the features. It provides a lot of possibilities, not everything is possible, but it will one day probably. And even if what you expect to achieve isn’t available out of the box, there’s probably a workaround to find on their Github.
Third part : the documentation. Kinda awesome, you have everything you need to find a lot of answers to your question.
Fourth part : the dev team, which seems really active and I admit that this is a very good point. They were here to reply on my questions very quickly and solved every single trouble I had.
Just download it and play with it… it’s AAA.

Once I have written a whole library for exactly this purpose myself (this was before I knew CMB2 and probably before it has even existed). I can tell you it is a fucking whole lot amount of work to provide some of the advanced features this plugin offers.
In a project (for an “accordion” containing HTML contents as well as custom predefined contents) I needed a repeatable and sortable group of WYSIWYG Editors with titles and the possibility to select predefined contents. It fucking works! You certainly do not want to implement something like this yourself, trust me ??

CMB2’s API is simple as ABC.
The plugin does not require any custom functions on front-end, just WordPress’ vanilla get_post_meta() and, sometimes, get_the_terms() (like in case of taxonomy dropdown).
Great plugin in comparison to the rivals. Documentation is great as well.
