Paid for the pro version, received zero response/support, got the refund very late.
The plugin has smtp option and reply via email option. SMTP won’t work unless you use a low security method blocked by google and you use it on your own risk. Don’t know if other smtp plugin can chip in. Reply via email requires you to subscribe via sparkpost or mandrill email providers, no option for gmail. With my setup I couldn’t have mx records for both gmail & sparkpost.

Seems to be one of the orphaned plugings in which the author has lost interest at some point. at the current stage, he has also lost the interest to answer support requests. so I can not use the plugin. shame about the time i lost with testing.

First off, this plugin is exactly what I was looking for! Pro version is very affordable (Single Site / $19 US for lifetime license with one year tech support) and more options to play with. As someone already mentioned earlier, I think this plugin deserves more attention and good reviews.
I personally like much the feature that allows me to use the third-party SMTP server. The other competitive plugin does not have that option but charge a monthly fee for pro version. So this plugin is perfect for someone like me who loves to configure on his/her own. I have to admit that could be more complicated for beginners with less experience in WordPress. But their documentation is well written and easy to understand. Needless to say, their tech support is very helpful.
Although mostly I am happy with this plugin, I have an issue and one suggestion.
[My major issue]
I wish KB included more details on RVE handler, especially the section on how to set up MX record. With their support and my server’s support, I tried to set up MX record to make it work but I ended up giving up on this feature. I might try it again following step by step along KB and their support in the future though. Since I found out that RVE could cause a confusion among the users, I am okay without it for now.
[Suggestion]
If this plugin somehow integrated with other post subscription plugins (such as MailPoet or subscribe2) or came with a similar feature, that would be great!
Especially, with RVE feature, it would be perfect to make the website like Yahoo Group, which allows the users to subscribe posts and comments, and reply via email. Believe it or not, the plugin that could replace Yahoo Group’s such features with DOES NOT exist now as far as I know.
Thank you for such an outstanding plugin!

Well, I think it’s a good plugin. I just installed the free version on my production server. However there is a huge amount of work to translate user interfaces in French. Not only in templates, it is also necessary to modify hard php files, which is not very recommended.
I think to upgrade to PRO version, but I just read that I must uninstall the Free version before installing the PRO version, and therefore lose all the modifications made for the French language.
I think I will wait for the translation to advance on development side before migrating.
When this is done, I think it will be an excellent plugin for managing comments in WordPress.

I love it when very serious guys make it their mission to resolve specific set of problems and understand the problems(s) to be solved. The later is often missing in many plugin authors. These guys understand the problems they are solving from business prospective.
The documentation is amazing and I wish all plugins do such great docs. What makes the documentation in this plugin different is that is right there as you configure in WP Admin. You can tell they have taken much time to communicate exactly what each option is doing and all the default settings are good for most people. Please do not stop your “in-place” documentation despite some people complaining that it is too much information, it is rather the essential information that I wish all plugins have.
The plugin worked on my first test where all other plugins for similar functionality failed me before.
I plan to purchase pro as soon as my site picks of traffic.

Moved over from StCR as this one actually works.

I was searching for another plugin but found this one instead that does the same thing but better and is more fresh. Double win.

One of the biggest gripes I get from my visitors is the inability to be notified of new comments or replies to comments they leave. Especially since I don’t require users to log in to leave a comment. That problem has been solved with this ingenious plugin. Does everything it says and more (if you pay that is). The free version will suit most people’s needs but if you want even more power, get the Pro version.
Either way, be sure to make a donation to the developer to keep fine plugins like this being developed. If I had to add any feature, it would be a way for visitors to flag an inappropriate comment or spam, and then to get notified by email. There are plugins that do this but most don’t work with third-party plugins. This worked with a YooTheme template I have installed, and they are notoriously difficult to customize because of the Warp core they use.
Comment mail had zero issues. I did have to change the font size on forms as the drop-down menus to choose delivery methods was too big when viewed on Firefox (so you couldn’t see them clearly). Once I made that CSS change to the font size, it ran without a hitch. Best of all, my visitors are back to being happy as they now get notified of new comments or replies to their comments! Woo hoo!

Fine plugin indeed with plenty options, well-documented within its interface, thanks!
But few things missing like :
– Where to upload the translated .mo file (here : ~/wp-content/languages/plugins/), which should be named [comment-mail-xx_XX.mo], not [comment-mail-pro-xx_XX] as included [comment-mail-pro.pot] file might suggest it…
– No html input field option, with short-code tags, available to make formatting much, much easier for mail notifications templates (need to dig into HTML-PHP embedded “templates” files…).
And last but not least :
– Support far too slow (1-week wait once…) and too minimal, especially for a paid version!
Great builders behind this product, thanks again, good luck with improvements (and a bit more attention to users please)!
P.-S. (indirectly concerning Comment Mail Pro )
– When WordPress option “Comment must be manually approved” is on and if plugin Postman-SMTP (v. 1.7.2) is active, no new comment notification mails were sent and received (or few hours later, in some rare cases), whatever parameters set on both parties. Removing Postman-SMTP and using option “SMTP Server Integration” on Comment Mail (Pro version only) solved the problem.

Plugin worked fine, was just a bit too complicated and slightly overwhelming for me. Need a quickie fix.

Nice plugin and highly customizable, even in free version. What I am missing is a language pack. No po-files included.

Setup for this plugin is well-documented and easy-to-do, it is functioning perfectly with all security and compliance issues covered…and now we have a great way for site visitors to interact with registered users without having added any bloat, interference or intrusions anywhere.

We are pleased to announce the first public release of Comment Mail.
It’s the “Age of Notifications”, and everyone wants to be alerted about: who interacted with who, what they said, and if someone “liked” what they said. Your comment community would love to stay updated with these discussions and now they can! They can subscribe to your comments feed, and get an email whenever there is an update on your blog. Keep your visitors coming back and create a community around your blog that encourages commenters and subscribers to stay engaged in the topic.
Comment Mail also supports SSO (Single Sign-On) integration with Facebook, Twitter, Google, and LinkedIn. In addition, Comment Mail integrates with custom SMTP servers, with Mandrill (for Replies-Via-Email), and includes advanced reporting tools and charts.
Comment Mail is a powerhouse plugin that allows commenters to sign up for email notifications whenever they leave a comment on your site. Or, they can also subscribe without commenting—the choice is theirs.
This is a fantastic way to engage visitors—giving them the details they want, when (and how) they want it!
