first of all, thanks to Alexander for this excellent plugin, I really love it.
But I am not planning to convert to Maps Marker, as it is too expensive for my simple needs, just KML file handling and marker handling.
Thus, I have taken the freedom to fork the plugin, rename it to “Simple Google Map Plugin”, removed all the export code and warnings.
People are free to try it out, please see the page

For now it is a simple copy of the original plugin minus the export functinality and warnings, and renaming of all functions and widgets.
The short code remains the same, so as long as you don’t have *saved* shortcodes, you can just remove the old and install the “Simple” to get the same functionality.

over the last 3 years the “Comprehensive Google Map Plugin” has been downloaded more than 545,000 times – making my plugin one of the most downloaded mapping plugins in the WordPress plugin repository ??
Unfortunately, due to limited resources and changes in my professional life, I am not able anymore to offer the kind of professional support and development needed for a plugin with such a large userbase ??
After thinking about this for a long time, I have finally decided that this will be my last official release, fixing an issue with broken post edit screens since WordPress 4.0.
Any future possible issues (e.g. incompatibilities with other plugins or newer WordPress versions) will not be fixed by me and I will not offer any new official releases available from the WordPress plugin repository. Of course, interested developers can fork my plugin (as it is licensed under the GPL) and make it available as a new plugin. ]]>While the map itself displays and works as it should in 4.0…. the plugin, when activated, blocks the ability to add media or do anything else that requires a pop up screen.
Workaround by deactivating the plugin, make changes to your site, and then reactivate.
Hopefully there’ll be a fix for this soon!

Currently there is an issue with WordPress 4.0 and v9.0.20 of my plugin, breaking screen and widget options. As I am currently preparing a new release which will be available in a few days, I hotfixed v9.0.20 and new installations should be compatible again with WordPress 4.0.
For those users which cant wait till v9.0.21 is available in a few days, please manually download the current plugin package and manually overwrite the plugin file head.php on your server via FTP.
As an alternative, you can fix this issue on your server by opening yourdomain.com/wp-content/plugins/comprehensive-google-map-plugin/head.php
find the line
