Hi guys,
how can I translate the term “Report”?
I tried loco translate but it did not work. I only need to replace this one word but cannot find it the source code. Can you please tell me where to find it?
Thanks a lot!
]]>This plugin, with my proposed enhancement, may be close to what I need. If not, I could attempt to write it (with my very limited experience in WordPress and PHP/Mysql programming). What I need is:
(My apologies if the following appears negative. In spite of this, I think most people who read and/or post comments to WordPress sites would greatly appreciate this.) Beside each comment add a simple check box which a visitor adds if he/she thinks that the comment DOES NOT ADD TO THE DISCUSSSION. Each time the check box is clicked, a record consisting of:
1. A timestamp (equivalent to the output from “date +%s”);
2. The IP address from where the input originated.
After the input has been input, store in a (MySQL?) database table, a row consisting of:
<comment identifier>,<IP Address>,<timestamp>
This table can, for each comment, keep a count of visitors who DO NOT BELIEVE A COMMENT ADDS TO THE DISCUSSION and for each such input, also the time at which the comment was made, and from which (internet visible) host the input was made. (Of course, I realise that, a large number of user’s computers are mapped to a single IP address because of the shortage of IPV4 addresses, but I don’t think that this should be a significant problem.) Normally, if bots are not being used, or if no one visitor is repeatedly clicking the “DOES NOT ADD TO THE DISCUSSSION” checkbox of a single comment, there will be a fairly even random statistical distribution of timestamps for each given IP addresses.
Where there is an excessive number of clicks within a small time span from a given IP address, clicks from that IP address could be devalued, perhaps to one tenth, one sixteenth, one thirty-secondth or less than the values of clicks from elsewhere.
As the count of “DOES NOT ADD TO THE DISCUSSSION” clicks for a given comment in relation to a smaller count of clicks or none for other comments, the comment displayed on that discussion page could be altered as follows:
1. The full comment placed elsewhere;
2. A smaller introductory excerpt of the comment be placed, on the discssion page, in place of the full comment.
3. Ad a link back to to the full comment from the excerpt.
This would allow most users to more easily see the comments which have implicitly been judged, by other vistors, to ADD TO THE DISCUSSION, whilst still allowing any visitor who finds his interest is still aroused by the remaining except, to follow the link to the full comment.
After a comment is ‘demoted’, visitors could still click the “DOES NOT ADD TO THE DISCUSSSION” eventually causing the displayed excerpt to be smaller or its font size reduced. So an implicit hierarchy, of how relevant the comments are, could be created without the need for outright censorship (except, of course, for posts which are offensivve, or which break the law).
In the longer term, visitors may find that they don’t even need to click the “DOES NOT ADD TO THE DISCUSSSION” buttom as more and more visitors learn to make posts which are relevant and more succinct and which do not repeat what has already been written previously.
]]>Hello,
I would like to not have the plugin scripts included on pages without comments. Could you please grab me a code snippet for this? Loading useless scripts on pages that don’t even have comments is a waste of resources. I don’t mind editing core files, I log all my changes, but I am trying to run an optimized site, and need to only load these scripts where comments are open.
Thanks.
]]>I’m on a local host, and yes just like the title, that is whats happening, the threshold is set to 4..
and just after 1 report, boom, the comment is gone..
so by whats happening, i think its cheking the “IP” or something like that?
i’ve made different users, and allowed crowd to report comments, and yes, it says “it seems you’ve already reported this comment”
if only it checks the ID of the one who reported the comment, i can test this even when I’m on a local server …
is there anything i can do? to check if threshold limit is really kicking?
thanks for this great plugin btw…

]]>I’m finding that reported comments immediately disappear after just one report. (Without being logged in I reported a comment that had never been reported, and it immediately disappeared — due to Epoch I presume,)
It also looks like old comments that get sent back into the comment moderation queue can be “buried” many pages deep in your comment list. Do admins get a notice when a reported comment has been pulled back into the moderation queue? The “Reported” column is not sortable either so there seems to be no way to pull the reported comments to the top or quickly assess the most flagged comments.
It might be good to add an option to disable crowd control on comments older than XX days.
If comments are already set to be closed after XX days, then it might make sense to shut down reporting after that too. (Presumably old comments and closed discussions have been vetted and do not need to be re-assessed by future visitors.)
]]>Hi,
I seem to be running into an issue which is causing conflict with my responsive mobile menu.
If the plugin is activated my menu just disappears.
Could you help me out on getting both working together?
Thanks
]]>Hi everyone!
We know that there were some recent problems with Crowd Control. These issues have been addressed in v1.1 and everything should be smooth sailing now.
Download the new version and check it out!
]]>Hi,
When posting a new comment, several errors are thrown in the Crowd_Control->add_flagging_link_comment() method.
They seem related to the comment object not being given to this filter from check_comment method in wp-includes/comment.php => $comment = apply_filters( ‘comment_text’, $comment );
$comment is just the comment text, but the comment object is missing.
Thanks!
Ruud
No extra lines in blacklists, comment settings set to open (requiring only name/email, no validation, etc.)
The only thing that changed between comments being auto-approved and auto-held was activation of this module. Any ideas? Thank you!
]]>Hello,
Great plugin. How can I change the text of the report button?
Thanks,
Christoph
Hi
i have added this plugin and setup in the control to the following:
Enable Crowd Control moderation: check
Send administrators an email: check
Crowd Control threshold: 3
But I do not get any emails and I do not get any notifications within WordPress. I can however see a column “reported” to the right on the comments list, but I do not know how to handle it (accept or ignore the report)
These 3 comments are all reported: https://trafikbloggen.se/valkommen-till-trafikbloggen/
Also: When I click “report” it changes to a red check, but when I reload the page that red check has disappeared.
]]>Please suggest me the best way to customise the Report link.
I would like to change its text to “Flag as Inappropriate” and place the link at a different location besides “Reply” link within the comment form.
Thanks,
joy
I have a Woocommerce site with many plugins working. I love the idea of this as we not only sell frozen meat and seafood, but have many cooking hints, tips, and a recipe section on the site, and encourage comments and feedback. The idea of users referring inappropriate content to moderation is wonderful!
I installed the plugin today, and the extra column has appeared in the Comments area, but there is no ‘Report’ button showing against comments.
The only thing I can think of is that there may be a conflict with another plugin. The plugins on the site are:

I’m not sure why, but it doesn’t work with Epoch. Even when all plugins are disabled and even with a different theme ??
