The mac version of the software work, even if very slow.
The windows version is a disaster. i cannot import website from desktop server to desktopserver beause as said by an error message the “files path is too long” !?!
It screwed my internet connection which is now very slow and very unstable. I cannot download anymore big files without being deconnected, only light communication (like loading an internet page) à 200 kb. Once i tried to download a big file, to connection stop while still connected to the wifi network. I will probably have to reinstall again if i cannot repair the current installation.
At last, custumer support is only 1 year. After that, no update, nothing… [ redacted ]. And you learn it after you bought it because it not clearly indicated on the purchase page.
Most issues of the forum are never solved and there is [ redacted ], all related to connection error and slow connection.
It’s half a scam. And that for __100$__/year.

The tech support from these guys has been outstanding. Even with my initial free version, they were onto Skype to talk me through issues I was having getting the software running (was Skpye blocking ports). I’ve since upgraded to the Premium version, and deployed two sites – both deployments required assistance (not DesktopServer software related issues) and they were quick to respond and get the sites working. Highly recommend especially if you’re new to building and deploying sites.

DesktopServer has claimed approx. $200 of my dollars for the last 2 years and they will never see another dime from me. As a “premium” subscriber here is what I enjoyed. 100% of the time voicemail. Not 80, not 88, not even 95%. Guaranteed if you call you will go straight to voicemail.
Hours later you will get a call back. In my case I waited the better part of a day. Back and forth hemming and hawing, could not get my ftp to work. Ironic as I sent screen shots of my ftp working fine. e-mails are “forgotten”. I would sit and wait to see if anything had been done – it hadn’t. I would inquire, nothing. No reply of any kind.
FINALLY I gave up and found out about Duplicator and am going that route. WAMP – Duplicator – lack of disrespect = winner in my book. Oh and saving myself another annual subscription fee.

I started with the free. Moved right to the paid and am on my first renewal. Aside from the products ability to deliver predictable performance, it has addressed a good number of annoying issues a developer needs to deal with. The support team is SUPERHUMAN. I would be running the earth if I had such dedicated and engaged team mates in my company. The only areas of darkness resides in the area of documentation. Organizationally and contextually it can present a challenge to navigate and consume. This is however offset by the tremendous support resources available to customers. Great product! Thank you for making it for WordPress! Update: On my second renewal for the paid version! Documentation has improved! Looking forward to the next release.

Having been a premium user of this plugin for a few years, I’m ready to move on to something better. This started with much promise and worked OK, but having developed 20+ WordPress sites using this, I can in all honesty say that it has only deployed without a hitch twice in that time. Every other time, there are bugs, exception errors and dropped/cancelled deployments. I’ve deployed to numerous hosts, shares hosting environments, VPS environments, etc. and the same things occur. The poor support forums don’t help resolve this easily as you spend even more time trawling for answers. Having spent numerous hours trying to solve issues with this plugin, I’m over it and the wasted hours it has cost me and my business in fixing what should be a straight forward process for the majority of sites. In nearly every instance I need to upload files manually and create a fix on the fly to resolve errors that this plugin/software creates. Buyer beware on this one, go for the free options out there that will get the job done properly. Nice dream but it can turn into a nightmare…

Desktopserver is pretty much a must have for any WordPress Developer. There are other options, but when everything is added up, in most cases, this will be the best choice. Although the direct deployment has some issues with some providers (yes, even a major hosting service), there’s simple workaround options and, in my case anyway, the team at ServerPress stepped in and did the deployment for me! (Note: I am a Premium Member). If you haven’t tried this plugin, you owe it to yourself to do so.

ServerPress does exactly as it claims and the team has given me prompt and able support when I needed it in the past.
Keep on keepin’ on . . .

Hey guys!
I made a mistake and installed the online server before installing the desktop server. Now, when I ask the desktop server to connect to my website it simply shows me the following message. What can I do?
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/install.php on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Thank you for your help!

So…I had a problem with a couple of local sites not being found. I decided to contact tech support. Within a short time I got an email asking if they could call me to troubleshoot. What?! Who else does that? Nobody that I know of! Not only did Gregg track down my problem (something I’d messed up when editing my hosts file earlier in the day), he showed me a bunch of new stuff.
Seriously, people, unless this company does something really funky I’m a customer for life. Their product really works. Best $99 I’ve spent in a long time.

Can’t say enough good things about DesktopServer and the fantastic team at Serverpress.com. DesktopServer has transformed how I work with WordPress. With just a few clicks, I can spin up a local development site or deploy one to a live server. Blueprints are a huge time-saver allowing me to deploy a preconfigured website in minutes. And it just keeps getting better. Love the new plugins they’ve introduced like Local Admin Bar Color and Bypass Login. Not to mention their support rocks! Thanks ServerPress!

I created a WordPress site with WooCommerce for my client who writes a history curriculum for homeschool educators. We had over 80 products in the store. It was created as a staging site with a different domain name as their store was already live. I was able to finish the new site, import it to my mac desktop with Desktop Server, export and scrub to change the URL’s to the original name with minimal stress. The team was there to help me. There were a few updates that I had to make to the products but it was not the painful process I had anticipated! I am now creating all my new WordPress projects on my desktop before launching them live. This is an invaluable plugin!!!
The Server Press team have been nothing but helpful resulting in one HAPPY DeskTop server user!!!
Thank you for your outstanding tech support!

This plugin allows me to push my Desktop Server installation to staging or live. It works every time and takes around 3 minutes to set in motion. After that the time taken is dependent on the size of the site and the speed of your upload. Brilliant plugin and Desktop Server itself is now an integral part of my workflow.

It works for *most* of the server environments I deal with. A few VPN scenarios don’t support it, but I suspect in those cases the servers are configured incorrectly anyway.
We have another deploy method set up using Bamboo but this is WAAAAAY more efficient. And easier. And faster.
Highly recommended. 10/10, would deploy again.

I’ve downloaded a lot of plugins and have therefore experienced the whole spectrum of “it really works and the developers are committed” vs at the other end “Nice try – I’ll look you up a couple of versions from now”
DesktopServer is just BRILLIANT. This plugin (on your site) and the app (on your local server) pair up to make moving, copying, importing, exporting, duplicating your wordpress site simple.
This is software developing at it’s best – taking complex, difficult, tedious, tasks that are riddled with potentially disastrous “gotchas” and making it easy, fast and safe.
Big kudos for support – I put in a call to resolve an issue and got a call back within an hour from the support rep – and eventually needed the developer to be conferenced in. They were serious about making sure I was up and running. The problem turned out to be a Chrome browser and a cookie.
There are 2 things to know about DesktopServer going in: A). Your site and database must be working. B). The more plugins you have loaded and active, the more this (or any similar app) will have to churn to finish it’s task.
Nice work guys!

Wow. Awesome! I used the free version of Desktopserver on my Windows 7 dev system for a few days to try it out. Liked the way it worked. Came time to deploy my dev environment to staging and thought I’d go for the full, paid version. Amazing. Exports directly from my local dev environment to the staging server (equipped with this plugin). Quicker and easier than Duplicator and much cleaner than my previous manual copy method. I won’t go back.

This changed the way I set up local dev environments. Easy to use and saves me a ton of time.

I am greatly impressed with the support the Desktop Server staff provides.
They follow up quickly, and willing to help when the problem is a bit outside of their tools and plugin.
Desktop Server creates a simulated server environment on your computer.
I use Duplicator to create archive zip packages of live sites, which Desktop server will import and I can work on an offline copy of the site.
This plugin simplifies the reversal process and allows you to replace your live copy with the one in your desktop environment.
This works as a back up with the added advantage that you can see that your back up copy is actually functional.
I use Vaultpress and Woocommerce, and you would expect reasonable level of support. Neither does a very good job compared to Desktop Server staff.
I am dropping VaultPress due to the lack of support. The other problem with Vaultpress is that the back up file is good only within the Vaultpress system, it does not work as a ‘normal’ archive.
The 100 bucks for Desktop Server is well worth the cost. I highly recommend their product.

I can’t recommend this more highly. Totally worth the money – makes it super easy for me to develop my WP Sites offline, and then migrate them live. For goodness sake, you literally just make offline site, buy a domain, download WP to that domain, download the DesktopServer plugin to that domain, and then hit “transfer” and your site is up and running on your new domain. I love this thing – has made my life dramatically easier.

DesktopServer for local development/install as well as the WP plugin, DesktopServer for WordPress are great tools. So much easier than MAMP for local development and huge time saving tools for deployment and more.
