It appears the links in the plugin description used by the plugin directory needs to either be updated or removed. It’s probably having people shy away from this plugin when it’s otherwise a perfectly fine plugin that simply hasn’t needed an update in 5 years due to its implementation being so straightforward & official.
Of course, the compatibility info could be updated (tested up to can be bumped up to the latest WP version, required PHP version could be added, etc.)
Also, it would be nice to see this added to GitHub (helps show support is out there for the plugin [if not by the developer; the community]), and then the link to GitHub can be added to the plugin description to help make people aware of this (also serves as a factor when choosing plugins… I like seeing a plugin on GitHub, or similar, for a number of reasons.)
Definitely getting on the optional side of things, but having an image for the thumbnail & banner can be nice. Doesn’t need to be anything fancy, but it also helps people trust the plugin as having effort put into it (with that not being the case for this plugin & more a factor of this just being made before those were made available for plugins in their current implementation, I believe.)
I bring this up because I came across someone saying they avoided using this plugin since it hasn’t been updated in 5 years. Taking into account that the actual plugin literally hasn’t needed to be updated in 5 years… the directory listing may deserve an update to shake off that appearance.
This also leads to a situation where we also have people saying they’re going to create a plugin for doing exactly what this plugin already does that may actually just be an effective replica of what this is. That seems like that’d just be adding directory bloat & ecosystem fragmentation for no real gain as the developer of the clone is/was just not fully informed on why their efforts are in service of no real gain for WordPress users (maybe they don’t know this already exists) and/or otherwise misguided in their efforts (creating a clone of an existing plugin as a means to promote themselves [not saying that’s the case… just a possibility since any other reason doesn’t seem apparent when it comes to spending time building what’s effectively a clone of an existing plugin], etc.)
Thanks for the great plugin! Just want to make sure people aren’t avoiding it unjustly.
