Hi
Unfortunately this plugin is abandoned. On some pages it still works, on other not…
Does anyone has an idea if something similar exists out there?
Thanks

I really like this plugin but it has been abandoned. Does anyone know of an alternative with the same functionality?
I need to be able to display specific child categories in the sidebar.
Hello,
We’re liking your widget, but it’d displaying past the sidebar, and I can’t seem to correct it via CSS.

HI
I used this plugin for a long time now and for a page I now activated a recent post widget. Now all the categories aren’t clickable (so no link).
I tried different plugins for recent posts and all are doing this so I suppose that your plugin is using maybe a css style that is commonly used for recent posts or so
Is anything known about something like that?
is possible ti modify the font size?
https://www.buttinoni.it/fotografo-matrimonio/
I added four widgets in the left sidebar, but only the first one works, the others when clicking on the category, nothing happens. If I take the second by-example and put in place of the first, it works. Just what’s at first works correctly, is it really a limitation of the plugin? I’m using Elementor Pro to build the theme.
I use this awesome widget to list top category and it children.
One thing I don’t get: why display the H4 tag even if we leave the title empty in the settings?
I believe line 213 should leave the $title variable empty (currently adds a space):
$title = empty($instance['title']) ? '' : apply_filters('widget_title', $instance['title']);
I would also be able to have the link on the parent category, not just its children.
I’ve edited linke 231 to do so:
if ($yourcat) echo '
' . $yourcat->name . '
';

Hello,
I activated the list view and the white background I need does not display for the entire length of the widget. It just barely starts and then stops.
Is there a way to adjust this with the plugin or is it something I need to contact the theme developer about?
I deactivated list view and went to drop-down until I hear an answer.

Good afternoon,
Is it possible to display and or exclude WooCommerce product categories with your plug-in?
Thanks!
After updating to the latest version, this plugin caused a fatal error.

Any help with this?
There seems to be a bug with Display Parent and Display Title being switched around. If Display Parent is turned to Yes it shows the Title of main category as text above the drop box of categories. If it’s set to No then the title disappears, but the Top Level Category (i.e. All Books) does not get shown. The Display Title check box does not do anything whether it’s set to Yes or No.
Please fix.
Hi, Our website wasn’t loading today and WordPress sent me a message saying the cause was your plugin. Everything is fine if the plugin is deactivated, but when I try to activate it, I get a fatal error message. It looks like you updated the plugin 2 hours ago so I’m guessing there’s a connection. Can you please look at this for me? I have used this plugin on many pages so having it deactivated is a big problem.

Hi all,
unfortunately the widget shows also planned posts (not yet published) if the option “Display Number of posts near categories? (optional):” is active.
Could this be fixed?
Best regards,

Hello,
I have installed ‘display categories widget’
– at first through plug in search and activate the plug-in … none result
– then through the folder up-load (download, folder zip, up-load through ‘add plug in’ and activate the plug-in … none result
By ‘none result’, I mean none change on category on widget page.
I am using Extra Elegant Themes theme.
What could cause the issue? Could you help?

These are my categories along with the post counts:
A (3)
– B (4)
C (5)
– D (7)
E (6)
F (6)
B and D are child categories of A and C respectively. When I choose to display them with order by as count in descending order along with all hierarchy levels, this is the result:
F (6)
E (6)
C (11)
– D (7)
A (7)
– B (4)
I was hoping to see C, then A, then F/E, but it’s a different result. How do I get the result I need? I want the parent category with most post counts to be on the top. Even with tweaking the default WP category widget with the widget_categories_args
filter, making $cat_args['orderby'] = 'count';
I get the same above result.
Can anyone explain to me the logic of how this is a descending order by count? It’s possible they display the ones with no children first and then the ones with child categories, but the example below shows that is not so:
The output becomes more confusing to me when I add another child category. For example if I make F a child of D, I get this as the result of listing all categories ordered by count in DESC and shown as hierarchical
E (6)
C (16)
-D (12)
– F (6)
A (7)
-B (4)
I do not understand the logic of how this is the correct result. Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
on my page the subcategories are not shown with indentation (see screenshot here).
In this screenshot from the category-page(WP-backend) , the category hierarchy is shown.
Is there somewhere an option in the widget I missed out?

Hi I would want to limit the display count of categories for example I have 15 categories but I only want to display 5 of them. Is it possible? Thanks
Hello,
When I add the widget to a sidebar, I get errors. But when I refresh the page, they clear and I can use the widget as intended. See the screenshot, and a system/server status report so you can see what my setup is.
Thank you!

I like the features, however, I am unable to order the list by any method. It has displayed the same way since installation. I am attempting to order by alphabet, but the setting does not stay. This is a very nice plugin!
I’d like to use it in a project where I create some sort of encyclopedia.
On the top of a page I’d like to display the letters A to Z (which are my categories), but instead of linking all letters (=categories), WP should add links only to the category names with articles in it, while the titles of empty categories should be displayed but not be linked to the respective category archive.
Is this possible (e.g. with somecustom function/filter)?
Thank you very much in advance!
I’m still seeing a WordPress warning that this plugin is using a deprecated constructor method on its class:
“Deprecated: Methods with the same name as their class will not be constructors in a future version of PHP; DisplayCategoriesWidget has a deprecated constructor in /vagrant/web/wp-content/plugins/display-categories-widget/display_categories_widget.php on line 12”
The constructor should be function __constructor()
, not function DisplayCategoriesWidget
.
Thanks.
