I was just approached by a EU customer about VATS. What the hell is VATS? Well, it is value added tax and recently, all countries have to report and file VAT for all sales made to EU customers.
Soooo. I installed this plugin to block EU customers ?? but trust me when I say, “You do not want to have to deal with that shnit as an American business”.
Thanks for the plugin and saving the day!

I’m using this plugin as a temporary measure against #VATMESS until I decide on a better solution, perhaps using EDD VAT plugin or the impending Taxamo integration plugin.

Like the title says, this little plugin does exactly what I need it do, even if I don’t want to do it.
Under the new Value-Added Tax rules, the European Union can now collect VAT from digital download businesses outside the EU who sell to EU residents (that’s a watered down explanation, I am not a lawyer).
As the curator of a small digital download shop with less than ten items (that makes me sound much fancier than I am), I don’t have the infrastructure/time/patience to figure out how much VAT to charge each customer (it varies depending on the customer’s country of residence), the will/want to collect it from the customer on top of the existing price or to deduct it from my profit/cost (rates go as high as 27%), and the skill/patience to figure out where/how to send the collected VAT and keep proper legal record of it. Hey, what do you expect? It’s a tiny shop.
This plugin is simple and perfect. You have to explicitly confirm that you are not an EU resident on checkout. If you don’t, you can’t checkout, and you’re informed that I cannot sell to you, linked off to the law itself for further education, and offered to contact me if you have any further questions.
What more could I ask for? (except for these new VAT rules to be struck down ASAP)
