FD Footnotes broke, most likely right after a recent WP update. The problem is that the “three dots graphic” is broken, and a new line is inserted. I have attached two different examples from two different websites which use the same plugin but have completely different themes.
Any ideas what we can do to fix this?

Edit: Sorry and nevermind. It’s a problem with a companion plugin. FD Footnotes still works.
What would be real great for, if all footnotes of all pages of a domain-project could be numbered in one general order an could be shown on one single special footnote-site.
To use this properly (and even as well at the moment in bigger sites) it would be very very helpfull if there was a drop down list of all the footnotes that had typed in before, so i could just choose a footnote I put in before and wouldn’t have to put in the very very same text again to make shure that footnote collects it properly to one single footnote. This is quite a problem, when footnotes are longer, as in scientific themes.
If all footnotes of a domain project could be shown on one page this makes even more sense, as I often have to put in one and the same footnote on several sites again and again, although it had been done on another site of the project.
Yeah, might be some more sophisticated.
But that much helpful, that I even would pay for that…
Sorry for my poor english (its late at night, here)

Hello,
I installed footnote today.
My first try to enter a footnote was (included the ” at the start and in the middle of the text”
“Jules Angst (2001), pers?nlicher Brief an H. Hinterhuber, aus P. Hofmann (Hrsg.): Dysthymie. Springer-Verlag, Wien-New York 2002. Anmerkung: Prof. Dr. Jules Angst von der Psychiatrischen Universit?tsklinik Zürich geh?rte w?hrend seiner aktiven Zeit als Arzt und Wissenschaftler zu den international bekanntesten und renommiertesten epidemiologisch t?tigen Psychiater. Seine oben dargestellte überzeugung wird von vielen Fachkollegen geteilt.” Zitiert aus Faust, DYSTHYMIE: CHRONISCHE DEPRESSIVE VERSTIMMUNG
whereas
Faust, DYSTHYMIE: CHRONISCHE DEPRESSIVE VERSTIMMUNG
is a link.
I tried with standard tags (( and )) and got problems, as in my several thousand words long text i contain some (……(..)…(…)) text-issues.
So I tried with [ and ] – this didn’t work at all. I don’t even get a Preview.
I tried with *** and *** as start and end sign (that would be cooool) – but it doesn’t work properly. It shows masses of text in the footnote.
I tried with +++ as start and *** as end sign – didn’t work as well.
I tried € as start (first field) and $ as end (second field) ((the translation in german isn’t proper, the fields where to put in the individual start sign and the individual end sign aren’t namend.)
I tried… oh, whatever.
Best result is, that the footnote ist presented as Number 3 (although its the first and onls footnote) oder there are three similar footnotes.
Next problem:
The sign at the beginning of the footnotes, with wich i should be able to return to the footnote in the text doesn’t work.
Third problem: The colour of the Link has got the same colour of the background at the end of the site (Theme: the 7.2) and I couldn’t find a place where I could change the colour of the lin in the footnote.
So what do I do wrong ?
The preview is on https://www.adxs.org/komorbiditaet/?preview=true&preview_id=46&preview_nonce=d05fdffe43
Sorry for my very poor english,
Best regards

On the website https://www.kurtpeek.com/about, I’m using the “Make” theme (version 1.6.7) which has a certain built-in margin to the edge of the page. When I insert a footnote, however, it takes up the full width of the page and uses a smaller margin. Is there any way to get the margin to be the same as used in the rest of the page?
Hi,
First, thanks for this tool. It’s very simple and useful.
My only problem is that the footnotes at the bottom of the page are not numbered. Maybe it’s a conflict with other plugins? I’ve noticed some other users have had a similar issue, too – maybe there’s an easy fix I’m overlooking?
Thx,
Lcx
Hello,
is there a way to only load fd-footnotes when it’s actually used?
I use it only on a few articles on my website, but the javascript is loaded on every single page.
It would be great to only load it when actually used on the page.
Thanks
Daniel
There must be a way to modify the code so that it does not jump down so far. It totally skips them unless there are multiple footnotes. TRhanks
The plugin feeds back:
Notice: Undefined variable: singleurl in /var/www/aminosaeuren.org/wp-content/plugins/fd-footnotes/fdfootnotes.php on line 130
I have posted the problem already in the forum, we do get an error message. We have fixed the plugin ourselves, it is working smoothly again on amino acids
This is the message from our IT:
To – at least – temporarily fix the issue, you can add
$singleurl = ”;
in fdfoodnotes.php just before
if ($linksingle) $singleurl = get_permalink();
in line 129.
Nevertheless, a proper initialization of $singleurl in the next release of fdfoodnotes would be highly appreciated.

since updating to 1.35 we encounter an error. Frontend and backend this message appears:

We have the latest wordpress version with WPML multilanguage environment and Avada theme. Please help. To view the frontend, please see e.g.:

I cannot make the plug-in work well. I cut and pasted text from Microsoft word with footnotes but I get classic cumbersome footnotes style (I get this [5], instead of the footnote being smaller and more on top and with no brackets as shown here https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/fd-footnotes/screenshots/). I have to manually enter the footnote to get the plugin style. Also, do you know if this plugin also works on non-blog pages, namely normal webpages? I ask because on normal webpages the footnote goes on footer of the page instead of the body of the page and makes it look very strange.
Any advice from anyone will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Firstly I’d like to thank you and say this is a fantastic plug-in and easy to use!
I’m getting Roman numerals for the footnotes at the bottom of the page. My readers have commented it is more difficult to follow, especially as the number of footnotes grows. I wonder if there is an easy tweak that I can make somewhere to use ordinary decimal numerals instead?
Thanks!
Hello and congratulation for your work.
I’d like to request some additions:
1. Add a hr separator atop the first note. The said separator shall be left-aligned and 25% of page length (or the like)
2. Make notes smaller in size
3. Surround the footnote pointer with square brackets (like this: [1]), the footnote and the square brackets being superscripted
The first two request are meant to emulate a book. The third request is meant to make it easier to click the pointer.
Ideally, all of this could be a list of options that people can turn on or off or even change (lenght of the hr, type of surrounding characters…).
Thank you and, once again, congratulation for what is the best footnote implementation I’ve seen so far.

thx for this awesome plugin.
A friend of mine is driving a blog and using your plugin.
Between footnote number and footnote text there is an unnecessary resulting in an ugly formatted footnote list (non consistent left indent) /1/.

Hi,
I need to combine two or more identical references in one number.
When i repeat the shortcode it appears 2 numbers with the same reference text.
Is there any way to solve this?
Thanks.
Hello,
Thank you for a very nice and easy to use plugin.
I used to manually create the footnotes using an anchor in the footnote number. To avoid head-butting when the user link jump to it, I create a pseudo class for it and use css to do the job.
In using your plugin, it seems that you have another way to jump to the linked footnote and jump back to the entry content. In both instances we have serious head-butting, by about 130 px. What do you suggest I can do?
Looking forward to your response, and many thanks again.

Hello!
some of my footnotes are in Hebrew (RTL writing) and others are in English (LTR writing). Right now all of my footnotes are in RTL mode, because of the fact that my whole wordpress site is in Hebrew.
How can I set my English footnotes as LTR and my hebrew footnottes as RTL?
Thanx!
This has been an awesome plugin for me for years.
Suddenly it is not working, even though I’m doing everything right … I think.
See https://ssnet.org/blog/rich-person-james-talking/
On the other hand, in an article that went up several days ago, the footnotes are still displaying properly: https://ssnet.org/blog/sabbath-school-lessons-enough/
What could be going on??

Hope is the correct way to declare the variable and be included in the next update.
Thanks for the plugin
Hello,
This is a very nice plugin and works extremely well. I have a fixed header (about 50 px) and I am banging my head against the desk trying to figure out how to offset the position of the footnote anchor links. Otherwise the text is hidden behind the header when following the link to the footnote or returning to the footnote reference. I use the following code to address anchor links in other parts of my site but when I target FD Footnote classes with this code it doesn’t work:
h2 span {
margin-top: -50px; /* Size of fixed header */
padding-bottom: 50px;
display: block;
}
I am also going to try some of the solutions posted here:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10732690/offsetting-an-html-anchor-to-adjust-for-fixed-header
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi all,
i am looking for a way to remove the linking between the note and the number in the text. The backend doesnt seem to provide this option, does anyone know how to modify the plugin files to archive this?

This is a peculiar problem I’ve just encountered.
Normally, my footnotes work fine. However, if I insert a footnote into the middle of a paragraph[1. like so] and then, later in that paragraph, link to a website, the footnote gets really screwed up. The href
attribute of the footnote link starts with a double quotation mark but tries to end with a single one, which doesn’t work. Instead, everything until the next
tag is incorporated into the anchor that’s supposed to link to the footnote at the bottom of the post. Things get malformed. The
tags don’t end where they’re supposed to.
You can see an example of this on my site.
I know this is an old plugin, but is there any chance this could be fixed? This is a most frustrating error.
Hi.
Brilliant plugin, but I have a question.
Is it possible to add a title that will appear automatically?
It wants to read as: References
Could anyone let me know if they have done it and if so how?
Regards.
Michael.
The footnote numbers appear in the text of post, but show up as bullets “?” in front of the footnotes themselves at the bottom of the post. Any suggestions, please?
When a user clicks on the footnote number or the return button from the bottom, it opens up a new window that badly aligns the page. This is super annoying. Are there any fixes? I really just wants something that snaps to the right spot on the page like Wikipedia does for it’s TOC.
