Using the HTML_CodeSniffer tool I pick up this error on both a site I’m working on and the website for this plugin:
This searchinput element does not have a name available to an accessibility API. Valid names are: label element, title undefined, aria-label undefined, aria-labelledby undefined.
When I look at the code in the plugin I notice it has this in include/forms.php,
$form .= sprintf(
'%s<input itemprop="query-input" type="search" name="s" id="%s" %s="%s" />',
however it is not printed in the source when I’m testing on the frontend, it looks like:

Any thoughts on what might be going on there? I would think this is a false positive but I also notice no label elements in the markup. Thank you!
WCAG 2.0 level AA – A world of woes and perhaps interfering with the 1st amendment – web sites can also be considered as art or containing free expression. It certainly needs testing in court. Apart from that I put the genesis accessibility demo site through an accessibility checker – https://achecker.ca/checker/index.php – not good – 126 potential problems. Better than many but the reality is that accessibility should be considered as an aspiration and not as an absolute (not my words but W3 org) – non-absolutes make for very bad law when people try to use something like WCAG 2.0 level AA under ADA (accessibility act) to sue people.
I am yet to find any web site out in the wild of any design worth that complies with WCAG 2.0 level AA . A bunch of rules clearly written by people that have never had a proper job or ever had to build a commercial product for a client. It is laughable because the U.S senate, the DOJ; Department of Health don’t have fully accessible web sites. They all have potential problems. To satisfy potential problems with many of the accessibility checkers you end up with nothing more than Big Black Letters on a white page and a few embedded images with alt text. In truth WCAG 2.0 is calling for adaptive design and not responsive design. We all know where that leads to… I thought that argument had been killed off long ago.
Forget your humble icons using <i class=” … as background images although you can cheat and put them in a span and the checker merrily gives you a tick. What a mess WCAG 2.0 really is for commercial projects – next they will be telling me I must write less than 30 sentences on a page and the reading level should be set at no more than 12 years old ) – there is a word for that an it is call fascism.

Do you have any recommended settings for your plugin?
Very valuable plugin, BTW.

Hi,
Curious if Section 508 Compliance has anything to do with plugins like these? Have you or anyone for that matter ever heard of Section 508 Compliance ever dealing with WP plugins?
Thanks,
D
I posted an issue and there has been no response. There is an apparent bug since Genesis and WP have updated. No news from the theme developer for several months.

I’ve noticed an oddity with Leiden – one of your accessible Genesis themes. On my PC (Win 10) computers, it looks “normal” with a blue color banner image with text and logo. On my Mac devices OSX and iPad, the color banner is missing and black text appears (in the same font as the image!) without the color or the logo image.
I think I noticed this after the update to WP 4.4 and wonder if there is something in the Theme that is deprecated and not working with the new version.
I also noticed that Leiden is not even showing up as a Theme in the WP theme library, so maybe this one is just out of date and I need a new theme.
The website in question is:

Hi there, I have installed your plugin which I really thank you for, I would like the have the
Skip to primary navigation
in a line, could you tell me which part of the CSS I should target please.
Thanks for the work and the plugin
Hi there,
thank you for all the great work you do with this plugin.
Hi,
Thanks again for all your work in making Genesis accessible.
As per https://genesis-accessible.org/2015/07/genesis-2-2-accessibility-changes-and-features/
H2 headings are given to: skip links, main navigation, sidebars (and in the content).
Question: not sure if I’m missing something but when I’m validating my webpage, it’s giving me an error about headings not being used in order.
E.g., on my homepage, I have
as the site title. On other pages, I have
as the relevant page’s title.
For skiplinks, it uses
so
comes before
on my site.
Any suggestions?
Hi,
After upgrading to the most current version of Genesis, I am no longer seeing the Genesis Accessible Checkbox option to “Add the post title to the read more links”. Not sure if it’s just me?
Thanks.
Hi,
Not sure if it’s just me but after upgrading to the most current version of Genesis, I am not able to tab through the primary menu’s submenu items, even though the plugin is configured to do so.
When I added and activated the Genesis Accessible Dropdown Menu, it started to work again.
Hi,
This looks like a great plugin!
We’re developing a site based on Executive Pro. I was going to start incorporating elements from the Leiden theme until I read the note about many features being added to Genesis 2.2.
What elements should we take for enhanced accessibility from Leiden once Genesis 2.2. comes out?
Thanks for your help,
Josh
Do you have any thoughts as to why, when I have the “Use an accessible sitemap” option selected on one of my sites, it would take over the front page?
The really strange thing is, I have two separate sites that are configured extremely similarly, and one of them is showing the widgetized home page with no problems; the other, when I activate “Use an accessible sitemap” disappears and gets replaced with that accessible sitemap.
I am using the Outreach Pro child theme with a handful of customizations.
On both sites, I have exactly the same Genesis Accessible settings and exactly the same WP Accessibility settings. I can’t really even find any appreciable differences in the Genesis Settings, or even other standard WordPress settings.
Thanks in advance for any advice or troubleshooting tips you might be able to share.
Hi,
I am using the daily-dish theme from Genesis.
The keyboard navigation doesnt work like it should.
If you tab through it, it opens the submenu (if there is one) but if you tab again the submenu disappears. 2nd submenu level isnt visible with tabs – you only “scroll” though it without visual feedback.
Is there anything I can do, to have the right behaviour?
Would be great.
The Genesis 404 page default search does not work when using this plugin. I have tested it on a sample site as well as my own.
When you arrive at a 404 page – if you enter search text from the prompt, the resulting search is using the 404 url to add the search query to.
Bad Url that takes you to the 404 page:
https://www.genesis-sample.dev/sdf
From there, enter ‘genesis’ in search box:
The resulting search fails because the url is not correct
https://www.genesis-sample.dev/sdf?s=genesis
Should be:
https://www.genesis-sample.dev/?s=genesis
Thanks,
Jackie
I’ve had to disable Genesis Accessible plugin v 1.2.0 as it was causing the home page on my Utility Theme (by Carrie Dils) to scroll past the footer, ie. revealing the background image. This was only happening on the homepage.
I’m using the theme and plugin setup as per Carrie’s documentation.
Anyone else reported this?
Hi, first of all, many thanks for your efforts creating these resources.
What validator tool do you suggest to check the WCAG 2.0 compliance?
Should this tool differentiate between the A, AA and AAA levels…

Hello,
How can I customize the “read more” text?
Instead of “Read more about [post title]”, I’d like to make it “Please read the full [post title]”.
(I know that sounds kind of weird. It makes sense in the context of the website I’m currently working on.)
I believe I’d do this by adding some code to my child theme’s functions.php file. Just not sure what the code would be. I tried copy/pasting the code from the plugin into functions.php and applied the customization but that didn’t work.

I am developing a site through godaddy’s managed wordpress site builder. I have bought and installed the Genesis Framework successfully and did not have a problem. However, I am trying to install “Genesis Accessible” and am not having such an easy experience.
I successfully downloaded the Leiden child theme (as far as I know). But when I go to download the Genesis Accessible file I repeatedly get the error message
“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.”
I have looked at other threads and have tried zipping and unzipping and downloading different versions but it is still not installing.
Help with this issue is appreciated! I hope it’s a quick fix.
Hello,
Is there a way (either through configuration or through a hook) to have new sites in a multisite WordPress installation enable these features by default?
I would love to be able to have this module enabled and its features standardized by default to an on-setting of my choosing for subsites, so I can ensure that accessibility is guaranteed for that user-set.
Thanks!
Hi I have installed Genesis Accessible,my site is https://www.tsioumas.eu
I run a couple of we accessibility tools like https://wave.webaim.org/ and i get contrast errors. How Can I correct this?
Hi Rian,
Finally I started using your plugin ??
I am using it with conjunction with wp-accessibility plugin.
The site that I am using it is a multilingual site (using WPML plugin for that) and has RTL and LTR languages.
I would like to translate the plugin to Hebrew – is there a project for that (in GlotPress) ?
I am also interested in an RTL version of the CSS styles – would you like me to create one and send it to you to include in the plugin ?
I found an issue that I need your help on:
I have the standard WP search box in my header widget.
I have set a specific width for it in order to meet the design and I noticed that the style is being overridden by the CSS in the plugin in the following class:
/* Display search button */
.search-form input[type=”search”] {
width: auto;
margin-right: 10px;
}
Any reason for that ?
And how to overcome this issue ?
I am using the Outreach child theme if it matters.
Thank you,
Nir
Hello,
I have an information website on https://www.blindofslechtziend.nl.
I work with Genesis, and the theme and the plugin Genesis Accessible. I have Genesis updated to 2.1.1. Since then I have a problem: In Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, the website is very accessible, but he is not on the Iphone with the keyboard to operate. Although he looks, can I be there or complete with Voiceover and not through a bluetooth keypad. I get to see only the page title and then only the first 2 links to opt for high contrast and to set the font size. I can then not along the navigation links.
Does anyone have this problem sound familiar? And does someone knows a solution?
I hope someone can help me.
Greetings,
Gerxke
Hi,
This is an essential plugin for all Genesis community.
My question is – will it work on all Genesis child themes ?
