I’m having compatibility issues with the plugin “WP Ultimate Recipe”. Once
activated, the “Hide Real Download Path” plugin stops working. The
download page is not recognized anymore, and it shows a 404 – page not
found error.

How can I find the cause of this issue?
I would like to keep using your plugin for my downloads.

I am currently auditing my site and checking 3rd party compliance to the new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into effect in May 2018.

Since I am using your plugin, I have a couple of questions regarding this topic:

– Is Hide Download Path setting cookies with personal information from visitors (like IP-address)?
– Is Hide Download Path collecting, storing and/or sending personal information from visitors (IP-address, etc.) locally and/or externally?

In case that you are storing/sending and/or processing visitors’ information:

– Are the IP addresses only stored anonymously, i.e. without the last octet?
– What are you doing with the stored information?
– Do you share the data with 3rd parties? If yes, have you concluded appropriate contracts with the subcontractors that commit the subcontractors equally to data protection?
– When will the user data stored by you (in particular cookies) be deleted?
– Do you offer opt-out options for users (if yes, how are they implemented)?
– Can you provide us with a Data Processing Agreement including technical and organisational protection measures as well as an overview of the subcontractual relationships for signature?

In case you operate in the US and you are storing/sending and/or processing visitors’ information:

– Do you offer legally recognised guarantees for the level of data protection (e.g., EU Standard Contractual Clauses or Privacy Shield)?

Yes, still working on version 4.8

Since the author did put effort so I’ll offer my own step-by-step version so that others can appreciate it as well (after activating plugin):
1. Create ANY folder on your hosting server using FTP or cpanel File Manager
(I created mine inside /wp-content/uploads/ folder). e.g. “downloads”
2. After activating plugin, go to Settings > Hide Download Link
3. Copy the directory highlighted on the “Root path on your server is”
e.g. /home/server/public_html/
4. Paste it on the “Base Dir:” text box then add the directory where you created your folder. Now, my full “Base Dir:” is:
/home/server/public_html/wp-content/uploads/downloads/
5. Keep “Log Downloads” checked
6. Click to Save Settings
7. Upload your downloadable file on your “Base Dir” (or on your created folder)
Let’s say my file is “plugin-download.zip”
The REAL full url of my file is /home/server/public_html/wp-content/uploads/downloads/plugin-download.zip
8. Create new post/page for your “plugin-download.zip” Download Page
Let’s say I named it “Download Page of Plugin” with slug “download-page-plugin”
9. On that page, you don’t have to write anything EXCEPT for the shortcode [download_page]
10. Save & Publish that Page
Now, the url of that page will be: website.com/download-page-plugin/
11. Create ANOTHER new post/page. This time, I created my Thank You Page.
I named it “Thank You Plugin Download” with slug “thank-you-page-plugin”
12. On the content, I included a thank you message plus the PLUGIN-SECURED download link.
e.g. Thank you for downloading my plugin.
<link href=”website.com/download-page-plugin/?f=plugin-download.zip”>Click HERE to download the plugin</link>
NOTE: “website.com/download-page-plugin/” is the URL of the first created page; “?f=” is the required query for the URL; and lastly “plugin-download.zip” is the file name of the uploaded file.
13. Save & Publish that Page
Now, the url of that page will be: website.com/thank-you-page-plugin/
14. To test if everything is working, go to the recently created page;
“https://website.com/thank-you-page-plugin/&#8221; and check the download link.
Once you click the link, the downloadable file should now be accessible.

This thing still works fine! The only bug I’ve found is that the author is checking for www in the url for allowed refferrersrerers which causes a bit of a mess since I’m using a sub domain to dev on. I moved the downloads folder above /public_html and put in the full path to the files starting at /. Added the shortcode to the page [download_page] and then crafted my hard link https://new.domain.com/freebies/?f=file.zip

No problems.

This plugin just do nothing. The worst “support” ever.

I am using the auto generated paths and even tried a few variations..
However it is still giving me the same error message when I create the download page.

I believe I have set it up properly, but when I inspect the page source where my download link is, I can still download the file from the new download path…

Hi, after I tried to save my settings on the settings page, I received some database error messages, see below (XXXX are the hidden directory path)

While it seems I was still able to manage to save the Base dir setting, it seems the plugin is not working.
– when I try to insert Allowed referral and try to save, it says “Something went wrong while saving data, please try again.” It does not save.
– I can successfully create the download page and insert code, but when I try to download the selected file the right way (https://YourSiteName.com/YourPageName/?f=YourFileName.extension) I get the following error message:

I’m using google cloud to store my files for downloads but the plugins seem like doesn’t work with a path different of inside wordpress. Is this ok or is a way to hide a google cloud path? Thanks.

I installed, the plugin, setup the root in the settings section, and placed the shortcode on the specific page, and added the correct download link in the . When I refresh the page all of the content is gone and I’m left with that message say there is no file. I manually added the link to the browser and it downloads. What am I doing wrong?

Hello, first of all thanks for the great plugin. unfortunately its not working for me. I tried to hide mp3 file path so that people who listens to music on my website do not get to see the file path. But i input this:/home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxx.com/wp-content/uploads/ into the Base Dir…i still can see the mp3. Please help

I also get this message:

And I find it is interferring with WordPress SEO displaying my sitemap. I get this error:

I think I read somewhere it is caused by extra white space at the beginning of a php file somewhere. I believe that info was on Yoast’ WordPress SEO KB website.

Any chance there’s an easy fix for this?

As had been experienced previously, I get an error when trying to open any of the pdf’s downloaded via the plugin: (‘…the file is damaged and could not be repaired’) – although, I can download / load them up no problem when accessed directly. I also notice that the file sizes when downloading via the plugin are slightly larger for some reason. I know you stated this issue was fixed in 1.5 – but not having any luck with it on version 1.6. Should I try using 1.5 instead?

I was trying almost everything to write down but looks like I need photo guide because all my efforts just failed.

So, like instructions said:

1. Upload your website and activate
Sure & done

2. Go to Settings -> Hide Download Link

3. Enter Root path of your download directory where all files are hosted. (it should be something like /home/public_html/yourdirectoryname depending on your host)

Can you please explain what to write where once more time. :/

4. Enter referred (if wish to restrict hot linking)
What to write here?

5. Now create a page and enter shortcode [download_page].

Hello, I tried many times to download zip file from my site.
1) I created folder and put MP4 file inside
2) I zipped it by using winzip
3) I save it at the root directory
4) I created a link to https://mysite/download/?f=file.zip
5) I download it on my computer. I got a error msg that the file got corrupted when I try to unzip it.

I know the zip file was good before upload to the server(many tests). Please advise?

So I installed the plugin, created a folder, uploaded all files, added my root folder path, edited my “thank you/download page” (added [download_page]), referer is empty.

Now when the download page is opened I get a broken download page saying “Sorry No File is specified to download.”
When adding ?f=”file” to my url the “download file window” appears so that seems to work.

Am I missing something?
I want the download page to appear when redirected from paypal after purchase and only want the links to be “scrambled” so the file location is not visibal – a nice “addon” would be expiring links….

This sure seems like it be a great plugin. I definitely want to use it on my site. But I’m having a similar problem as some of the other posters on this forum.

I can successfully download a .pdf from my site using the link from the media library, however, if I use this plugin, and set it up per the instructions, the same downloaded .pdf file is unsupported.

Any ideas?

When I open a PDF I get the Adobe Reader error “Adobe Reader could not open ‘abc.pdf’ because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.”

I do not believe that the file itself is the problem because if I try and open the same pdf file through php code directly in a PHP page it works fine. I can also open the PDF file directly through Adobe Reader.

Please advise with a solution to this problem. I would love to be able to use this plugin.

I have about 800 attachment file that is under default wordpress upload folder by monthly system. so it’s currently according to month
