This plugin is a bit of a game changer for me!
Having extensively used custom images sizes and the Crop-Thumbnails plugin for many clients to allow them much better control of their images, i ran into a big problem when it came to serving images as WebP.
Images were cropped automatically upon upload (and of course converted to WebP) but when adjusting the crop position later on, the WebP converted images were never updated, effectively breaking the cropping function.
But this plugin is not only fast, efficient and free (amazing work guys!) but has a completely life saving function: $images_to_webp->convert_image()
Using this i was easily able to connect Crop-Thumbnails up and have it so whenever a user adjusts a crop, that image is re-converted to WebP.
Thank you for such a fantastic plugin!

Just came across your profile because i use your smooth scroll plugin on many customers of mine. So i saw that you have some other plugins and now im using beside the smooth scroll plugin also the CPT Plugin and this WebP Plugin.
All Plugins are super simple and very easy to use. They also all work as thei should. Perfect! Thanks for your work!
Im corious if you could also add avif as supported format ??

You are getting feedback about SEO issues likely because when the “delete” option is selected the plugin needs to remove the http_accept line from the .htaccess rules (also the nowebp line makes no sense if the delete option is used).
Since the desktop crawler agents won’t pass the http_accept rule the search crawlers will get 404 errors trying to load deleted originals.
After a few years of WebP conversion experience I’ve found the reason some images come out larger is because they were compressed far too lossy (almost always a small JPG), but there is a command line option for CWebP that will match the original file size so you can do a full conversion to WebP.

I like the more minimalistic approach of this plugin. Most similar plugins tend to be very bloated and constantly annoy you with advertising the pro version. I also like the clear and simple UI.

Apache installation was flawless. Worked straight away exactly as per instructions.
NGINX still gave me 502 error and despite doing all mentioned in FAQ, I was unable to get it to work on NGINX.
However, I was able to switch to Apache so for this client, all was well.
I’ll have to try and see where I messed up the NGINX installation, because I’m sure that there will be times when I don’t have the luxury of switching servers.

Particularly good a bulk converting on long established sites with lots of old images. You can exclude different images types.

Why are some images not being converted?
How do I output webp on the frontend ?

Mess all your images, if you uninstall, it will destroy whole images and their links. Awful. This will absolutely will kill your website and time.

Me gusto el plugin, le falta algo de automatizacion en la configuracion, pero muy buena iniciativa y futuro, realmente lo recomiendo.

Nothing to add

Install then get a message “Add this to htaccess and reactivate”. Well there’s a waste of time for a start. Then, having added the code – It still does not activate!! Total waste of time

This is so easy to use! I was looking for a plugin that I could use on images outside of uploads to just create webp versions. It builds a directory tree for you to find the correct directory and it even gives you a find and convert missing images option. Brilliant, thank you!

Simply doesn’t work on Nginx, added all the necessary code to the config but still doesn’t work just keeps giving me the same message.
Dev has been unresponsive for over a week.

If you want to use this plugin, then you have to know a little about programming, because many errors occur during the plugin operation, and the plugin developer does not take any part in fixing them. It is quite obvious that the very name of the plugin implies that it is enough to download and install the plugin for it to work. But you can’t do that with this plugin.

NEW REVIEW:
Works like charm rn, developer is nice and really helpful. Big thumbsup.
OLD REVIEW:
Doesn't load WebP and doesn't show them in the media library. Seems to be converting just fine and going to the URL (imgurlblabla.png.webp) seems to be working too.
Just doesn't load WebP.

ExpiresActive On
#кэшировать изображения на год: (Чтобы не ругался pagespeed гугла)
ExpiresByType image/x-icon "access plus 365 days"
ExpiresByType image/jpeg "access plus 365 days"
ExpiresByType image/png "access plus 365 days"
ExpiresByType image/gif "access plus 365 days"
ExpiresByType image/webp "access plus 365 days"

Nginx config file doesn’t allow location block to be inserted directly, i have to put inside a server block. The test is successful but i can’t activate the plugin as it always redirects me to the ‘instruction’ page where it says to copy those few lines in the config files.
I checked the code and it is because the code is basically “if the server is nginx
wp_die” and the plugin dies there showing the information page only, without activating.

After checking out all available webp plugins, I settled on this one. This plugin is all you need.
It does the essentials, very well. Creates the webp version of images, and provides solid and efficient htaccess directives – it gets the right image everytime!
This is all you need for webp.
Thankyou.
